This is the reason i am not willing to spend on 3rd party ps5 storage right now, if sony removes the restrictions i will buy the sn850.

None of us will get outraged for this issue you have because it's really not that big of a deal to us. 

Besides who says 1.6TB would be enough in the future? Maybe that'll be full within 2 years. 

 

Best solution for your problem is don't get a PS5, get a gaming rig. Total control, no storage issues and it'll run games much better too. Sony has started releasing its exclusives on PC too.

Don't have music needs, that was a example for those who do, i have like 12 or so games lying in my ps4 drive which i get limited time to play, can't remove that because internet is bad and still wanna play them, for videos yes i do need some space.

Why am i like this, i fail to see how rightfully demanding a product to perform to it's full extent is wrong, capping storages like sn850 to only storing and running games is wrong, you are paying 15k for it just to use it as a dumping bag.

The fact that ps5 games don't run off an external drive is cause the games are specifically tailored to run high transfer speeds.

If u run say RNC rift apart off an external drive it will keep loading every time u pass through a rift. On top of that the program expects no loading times so the enemy program will start and enemies will attack you but your screen is still loading graphics. That means you will die every time you pass through a rift and you can't play.

 

For me this will work cause out of 11 games on my ps5 9 r ps4 games and 2 r ps5 games. So peace. Sony may release an official PlayStation SSD for the extra in built slot which will be the same as the 1 currently in the PS5.

 

Those looking for a hypothetical 1.6TB version can just do this instead of whining abt the 1.6TB versions inexistance. And if they do release such an SSD then they will make different storage capacity versions. 1TB, 0.5TB, 2TB etc.

You are right. 
At the very least, Sony should allow users to run Windows from the same drive. 

 

 

On a serious note, you are not buying a proprietary drive here. You are free to use it on your PC if you want, unlike the Series X Segate drive.

but I am not worried as I have 200+gigs of free space and I record tons of screenshots and videos while playing. 
 

I think I have 5-7 games installed including Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut PS5 version as the biggest most probably

Yeah i bought a TV which i intended to get like last year, anyone i had no intention of arguing with you, it's you who keeps on bringing the deja vu stuff up, it wasn't my fault sony sent me 2 crap DSE ridden X900H last year, and i don't wish your home appliances to fail yet here you are along with quioxite_1989, sachlife, kunjanpsd and a few other TV thread users who wanted my C1 to fail as per your comments and reactions on what you bought this week thread. Difference of opinion one thing but downright wanting the product to fail so you can enjoy a i told you so moment is a whole new ballgame.

I'm chillin doc like you prescribed but i had to bring iphone and lg laptops into the mix because it was you guys who first wished burn-in on my brand new tv just after me posting it's pic in what you bought this week thread.

And no matter what anyone says here, every consumer has the right to demand to the company, so that you can use a costly product like the sn850 to store everything like it would on a PC etc. People should be mailing sony at this point to allow the to use their storage solutions to be fully used to their capacity, but instead here we are people trying to cover for sony's lack of consumer support.

Anyway doc let's not argue let's keep the festive mood, I'd appreciate it if we both don't continue with each other on this matter since we have conflicting opinions and i am a person who buys a product to fully function to it's capacity so that i never have to look at it again. 

Those users who got the jist do show sony you are interested in using the 3rd party drives to storing and running everything beyond games. Those cheap comments about pron can GTH this is a serious discussion on a public discussion forum about the current limitations of a costly device that can easily unlock the entire storage capacity of 3rd part drives with a simple software update. Sony won't know you are serious about it until you let them know.

I had to post here since it's a large PS userbase, and because we can make the right thing happen and make sony give the drive it's entire usage capacity. That's all.
