zoord
First Batch of Sony's India Hero Project Titles Scheduled to be Announced Between Feb and April 2024. Fernandez says that India is a country with favorable conditions and will be able to achieve success like the China Hero Project here. Therefore, the India Hero Project has two two goals that are two sides of the same coin. First of all, Indians will release culturally friendly games and increase the share of PlayStation in the console market in India. And it is to release games from India all over the world and provide new experiences to PS5 users in various places. Fernandez says that the first group of titles selected for this project is scheduled to be announced between February and April 2024. It seems that there was also an unexpected trend in the application title. The genre of the game with the largest number of applications was adventure games (25%). Next is FPS and TPS games (18%), and under this, RPGs, casual games, horror games, etc. were included in the list while greatly reducing the proportion. In addition, Fernandez's team seems to have found that it is the first time for the majority of applicants, about 78%, to develop a game directly for PlayStation. ___ [Indian Market] - Now the PS5 has an install base of around 300,000 units (official and grey sales), in line with Sony's own internal sales estimates https://0451games.substack.com/p/spider-man-2-ps5-india-sales-analysis

So did Microsoft when they installed an Xbox 360 stand in some retailers. The Indian market has always been a difficult market to crack mainly due to its economic structure and local interests (cricket, culture). Though India has the world largest population, Nintendo and several luxury chains dont find it a viable market. I believe more than 50-60% cant afford a TV let alone a console and will hardly change in future. I am still eager for the day when Indian developers can produce an AAA quality game that is not cricket or a cultural game.

Just that they aren’t in India anymore. Most of the folks who are into programming move abroad at an early age due to little to no scope here….specially in games development. zoord
Don 2 psp game and Ghajini game too. Hopefully no battle royal game. Market is already enough saturated with those games. I loved FC4 and Lost legacy because of India based setting. Enemies used to scream BC MC in FC4

They just rebrnaded a cricket game as their own and set up some kiosks. Sony actually went ahead and developed a bunch of games for ps2/3/psp and move with a bunch of local Indian developers. Had local production of ps2 and ps3 discs in India too to bring the price down. The problem was they wanted to develop games native to this place like Gilli danda, kho kho & bull kart racing etc what they should instead done is ask the developers to make games that they themselves would want to play instead of guessing what the demography wants using Hollywood movies as a template.. Yeah for a very short while PS2 games saw a price drop in-line with PC games. 999/- for GoW,Ratchet & Clank,Gran Turismo etc. But then as usual Indian chomus started smuggling these discs into foreign regions & that’s why they had to stop the Subsidies. Yeah you know your history. That was considered their best "marketing" strategy to capture the Indian market. Unfortunately it is obviously didnt reap the rewards. Now Sony is trying to revive part of that strategy that is the India hero project. Amazed that the Ubisoft studios in Mumbai and Pune are still active even after that the PoP fiasco. 43 minutes ago, AnK said: Yeah for a very short while PS2 games saw a price drop in-line with PC games. 999/- for GoW,Ratchet & Clank,Gran Turismo etc. But then as usual Indian chomus started smuggling these discs into foreign regions & that’s why they had to stop the Subsidies. I am not sure if the local production stopped is due to smuggling as PS2 and PS3 were region locked back then. I believe that sales were too low or unviable to justify the local costs (even with the special prices).

The discs manufactured in India were PAL/EU & hence these were perfectly playable in all of Europe,Russia & Middle East. Starting PS3 the region lock in games was removed. Sony first party PS3 games were made in India at a very very later date but weren’t subsidised at the same level as PS2 games were for a very short while.

They got their chance to make a new game and blew it. Don't think ubi will trust them with anything big anytime soon.
