The Playstation 5 thread

This will not work with ps5. 2.2 gb/s doesn't cut it. The required spec is like 6 gb/s or something. PS5 will straight up not accept these slower SSDs.

Don't think it'll flat out refuse the drive based on speed, just that when the game that expects full speed will have issues running on it.

I'm pretty sure it will. Games like R&C are being build with the super fast speed in mind and I don't think they're gonna have a messy system where a certain game works on expanded storage and other doesn't. It's just recipe for disaster.

The game may have issues running but that doesn't mean PS5 will reject the drive. Its just a standard PCIE 4.0 connector. It might throw an error saying you have a slow drive, but I bet most 3rd party game will run with 2.5GB/s drive.

Not sure how I feel about this. Economically it's as good as the Series X pen drive then if you want the best performance, maybe in the long term SSD costs will come down but even currently a Samsung T5 is retailing @ around 8,500. Don't have much hopes there.

For archival you may as well use the an external 2-4 tb drive.

I did not expect them to support all sizes including the biggest ones. The real prosumer sh*t, not having to pay for overpriced proprietary stuff.

Thats the first thing I noticed, pretty cool

That works too but then why have an NVMe at all. Swapping from Sata HDD would take like 1 hour or so I presume. Downloading would take similar time on a fast connection. It's not a big inconvenience for me, personally.

Assains creed odessey takes 10mins with usb drive

I think I read somewhere that to run next gen games, you'll need 7GB/s SSD for sure. A slower SSD or an external HDD can be connected for either storage or playing PS4 games. So, yeah, cost-wise, for running next-gen games, both consoles have similar pricing on expandable storage atm.

On a serious note prefer the way Sony has implemented the SSD expansion, was same with the Ps4 which i loved.
