All platform owners have to sell consoles at extremely low markup, many times at losses and that is considering just against cost of material, not the salaries, admin and marketing, but you say, it's ok they make commission from games. Then you want them to sell game cheaper online than disks, then you want a cheap subscription based system where games should be given free periodically or a sale running on weekly basis. Then you want Netflix like library of games where everything is free and only small monthly price has to be paid....then you want yearly pricedrop o consoles....it goes on.

Wait what are you on about, when did I ever say that? The conversation here is to talk about the fact that MS/Sony put MP behind a paywall. I don't think anyone has a problem with paying for a subscription that provides games every month and that is what the payment should be for (games every month) . People who do not want that should be allowed to play MP on a game which they paid full money and bought.

From where on earth did you get Netflix in this?

Don't be a blind fanboy my friend is all I can say.

Now everyone including Nintendo   know it's basically free money on the table.

It's not free money, it's recovery of losses they are making elsewhere. 30% platform fee is not always 30%, it's often negotiated and big publishers get discounts and I am not even talking about lumpsum grants.

For consumers, MP is still optional, you don't want to pay for it, don't use it. I know MP. Is now much more important to experience than how it was 10-15 years back ..but then think the fee as paying for experience.

Lol. You are 10 years late to call me a fanboy. Haha.

you means consumers. Ok?

I am just talking business here.

if a developer makes 2 commercially flopped games, would you allow him to sell the third one for 10$ more than usual market price?

No, you will outrage. And you are right too.

We have natural communist instinct in us that we see any profit making activity, satanic, and we don’t give two shits if the same business is losing/lost sh*t tons of money elsewhere to make this service happen, which we are paying for.

It’s like we go to Multiplex and crib about prices of Popcorn, 400rs for a bag against what I can cook in my microwave for 20 bucks. Why can’t they allow me to take food cooked by mother inside?

it is not wrong in asking things cheap/free but it’s important to understand the business also.

You went from "Microsoft and sony maintain the infra and use cloud for mp so they charge money " to "it's all business and they need to recover their losses by charging for mp even if they don't actually spend much on it" in a matter of 2 pages.

Do you think cost of running Online services doesn’t account for anything other that cost specifically spent on it?

How do you sell Xbox Live to people, if there is no Xbox at all, if there are no games on it, if it is not sold because of XYZ reasons?

Understanding a business and getting ripped off are 2 different aspects.

Both companies are recovering any losses on consoles via games sold, Subscription money is additional revenue. Although I agree they won't make it free, the charges are on the higher side at the moment.

Ideally they should remove PS Plus requirement for MP and Cloud saves and instead make it a gamepass like game library subscription service.

Now that they have BC for PS5 they can start out by giving out PS4 games.

The bots can continue to pay for their XBL Gold for all i care

We know how a business works. We aren't stupid. We just don't like paying for multiplayer because it used to be free and Sony, etc. are only charging us because they can.

We know that they do it because MONEY. We just don't like it. There is 0 additional benefit we gain from it. It's free on PC. It used to be free on consoles. They charge us for MP and don't even make sure that developers put servers in our region.

Yeah they gave it free because their consoles were expensive at the beginning and they wanted that to provide a good value prop but QoS and seamlessness didn't match the Xbox Live, until KZ3 or UC2 or until Console prices  hit sub 350$.

So they changed strategy...

Now the funnel is much bigger, more people are willing to adopt at lower prices and  then spend smaller amount annually if they wish.

If you don't like it, please petition Sony to sell consoles at 599$

They will never do that for MP but at least make cloud saves upto a certain limit free for everyone please. Due to my HDD crash i've lost the save progress of many few good games on the ps4 :'( Especially driveclub bc....had completed 60% of the game...then bam....hdd crash....RIP saves ;-;

They just need to launch psnow in India. It already is like game pass for PS4 games. You can download and play instead of streaming. Even PS2 classics are available for download. Streaming is only there for PS3 games.

>People defending basically console wala taking hafta.

Pay-for-MP is basically an extension of universal 30% cut, except it's directed at the players.

The 30% cut is directed at publishers, you want your game on our system/platform/store you have to pay us.

Pay for MP is telling the players that they have to pay if they want to play the MP component of the game they have already Purchased

the 30% is ok, how else will console wala make money from his console he spent so many millions to manufacture, market etc etc.

This all started when MS decided to give console users online MP, so they decided to milk it because nobody else was doing it yet, PS3 was btfo by $599 and no games, so they had a field run for quite  a while.

Now everyone including Nintendo   know it's basically free money on the table.

Pretty much. No one here is saying that they are doing the right thing. Its just that now everyone is fine paying the money so obviously they are not going to leave so much money on the table just for some brownie points.

Ms will make xbox live free this generation in a few years ,not fair for xbox owners to pay with pc gamers playing for free. Surely they have a gamepass figure in mind after which they can comfortably scape off the live fee. Also having so many different subscription services is confusing .
