What a move sony :majesty:

Now they just need to force them to make PS exclusive.

I don't think it works like that. They just bought shares in the company and nothing else. That will have to come out of a separate deal.

Doubt they will, or even care about Playstation exclusives with that Epic deal (Other than some minor stuff like say Fortnite events or such). What the deal has done is that certain % of profits from Epic (Up to the level of their stake) will go to Sony. Say Sony has 2% stake now - 2% of the overall Epic profits, including Fortnite profits, Unreal Engine Profits and EGS Profits will always go to Sony. And considering the obscene amount money that Fortnite and UE makes, it will not surprise me if Sony has already made back this money, with extra cash on top of it, by the time the next Shareholders' meeting rolls around.

As far as exclusives are concerned - it will be the other way around. There is a chance that all Sony exclusives coming to PC will be EGS exclusives from this point on, but Epic Games will be multi-plat. Hopefully, this collaboration means that UE will be better optimized on PS consoles, but that and some minor events will be the total amount of "Exclusives" Sony will be getting.

A separate deal for that.

This is just Sony wanting to make some free paisa on the side.

I mean they are a normal company, not like some other company that has money to burn like their bots say :giggle:

That's not how it works. Any share of the profits do not go to shareholders in any % unless a company declares dividends and the dividends are generally paltry. The benefits of these investments are generally realized by either having an influence in the direction the invested company takes and/or by exiting the investment when the valuation soars.

So you will not see any money coming to Sony from this investment any time soon.

Guys EPIC is a massive company. Sony likely got around 2% stake for that much. Maybe less. You don't get any kind of influence with 2 percent stake.

Cash works.

Epic has Market valuation of $20B, so yeah you are right on money, it is less than 2%

Epic games is privately owned with multiple people having stakes in it.

The private companies use cash to increase valuation.

True that Epic won't be sharing this money in shareholders, it is not profit to be shared it is cash which has been infused to help them scale up.

Definitely, Sony will be asking that scaling to happen to help them in return.

Tencent has made a lot of bank

Beauty of Tencent is that they don't hesitate in investing in rivals.

They operate PUBG but have money invested in Fortnight too.

Tencent is owning hell lot of gaming than we know.
