Thing is, it's already launching several months late in India. Shipping a day early by online retailers would have had 0 impact on them but would have made many gamers happy.

I agree, for whatever reason, Sony decided on Feb 2nd as launch day for India. I wouldn't say no to receiving the console on Day 1. The time lost is in transit (shipment and logistics), buying from an SC would get us the console on Day 1 (as soon as the shop opens I presume).

Sure its not the best case scenario for those who bought from online retailers, but it's still not something I'd label as 'Delayed'.

However, the article itself does mention this:

Quote

It’s quite likely that Sony has dictated these terms in order for retail to be in sync with any marketing and communications plans it has in place for the PS5.

^^Nioh running in BC mode on PS5

^^Nioh Remastered running native PS5 port

Team Ninja is not really a mega corp backed developer.

If they are taking developmental time & efforts on going back on a 2016 game (when PS5 Dev kits were non existent) & improving the game natively & even adding something like 120fps mode (which is not easy to pull off).

Then we should not disrespect their efforts as a “scam”.

They are giving Nioh 2 upgrade for free as it’s 2019 game & they must have worked on it simultaneously on both dev kits during project production .

Same logic applies for Remedy too

Games like Nioh,Control,DMC,Spider-Man,TLOU,GoW are last of their kind,

where the solo gameplay & storytelling is the king

These games have no means of repeated cash ins with dlc seasons or Pay2win models.

For them to spend production time on older games means time & money.

So just coz M$ is remastering all of their old games for free(in their evident free time as there was nothing else to do) we shouldn’t really expect these guys to do the same.

Folks in the PC world get these improvements for free most of the time. Allowing for unlocked framerates or high res texture packs are minor tweaks and not something that requires the entire workforce to burn their effort. Especially because game development for consoles has become very similar to developing for PCs with varying configurations and specs. Also, if a game is a multi-plat one, then higher res textures already exist. Better shadow settings, lighting etc are also baked in to the game code. It's probably been dialed down or pared back for consoles and tweaking them should not be that hard.

We ideally shouldn't be in the habit of normalizing paying for tweaks. And if the effort involved is huge, let the devs/publishers introduce a new SKU with the enhancements and allow existing owners to pay a marginal upgrade fee. Charging again in the name of remasters is a scam especially for games that are barely 2-3 years old. Just cos these are not pay2win, they shlouldn't get a free pass. Also, despite all the flak that CDPR has been receiving, they have promised free upgrade to W3 on both PS5 and XSX. So it's not only MS who is doing this. Sony lost a lot of goodwill with the Spiderman nonsense.

P5 Royal was far more than a remaster. All of us know that.

Most of these new enhanced versions are just going in and changing presets from low to high or whatever.

Sure there is time spent on these things but none of that warrants the price these companies are asking.

I doubt its gonna take a lot of effort to enable 60 fps in a 30 fps game.

Royale was also 3x more expensive than $20 remasters. For people who played P5 before, it was a straight up rip-off just like every other re-release. And the games that unlock framerates and res are all free this gen.

So GTS Store pick ups, Sony Centres, Croma, Vijay Sales and RD all will get on Launch.

FK and Amazon no chance. I will also not get on 2nd as GTS can only ship on 2nd

What will happen if they allow to ship a day early at least :wallbash:

At this point, I just hope all PS5s are delivered before the weekend.

If it arrives before weekend, I'll just take two days off work.

Has RDR2 remaster been confirmed ?

Given how rockstar have dragged out GTA V, across three console generations, I think its safe to assume you will see RDR2 remastered for PS6 as well let alone for PS5 :D

Story-driven SP games is not going away any soon ... people said this 3-4 years back also.

Sucks we won't get on 2nd but we waited for 2 months without even news of a launch, a few more days isn't that bad in the grand scheme. At least we are getting our orders unlike the poor RD people.

Not all orders got cancelled. I am fairly certain I will get mine. Would have liked the 5x reward points from Amazon though :|

Don't think rdr online is anywhere near as big of a draw as gta online. They won't drag this game like that. Though chances of remaster are slim since the pc version didn't have ray tracing doubt they will do such a massive overhaul required for a remaster than work on gta 6.

They may not be going away but they are certainly becoming less lucrative to do financially. Development costs are higher than ever, development time is also getting longer along with the project risk. Most of the new money is coming into Mobile and esport titles.

So yeah SP will not be going away, but the frequency of games with such scale and vision will definitely reduce. Maybe this might even move a lot of development teams to India, as studios try to keep development costs down. The future though is definitely multiplayer. either in pure multiplayer titles, or passive multiplayer/ shared exploration and questing type deal which i think would work very well for Single player/ story driven games.

Financially, Mobile gaming is the most lucrative with staggering y-o-y growth rate, much much more than Console and obviously PC gaming. And it has been so for more than 5 years. But drop-out rate on mobile are also high which is never projected externally for us to see. Mobile gamers are just not loyal enough to gaming. I can't say that same for MP players but one thing is sure, those who play games for SP/story, for the lack of it will never migrate to MP. I don't think companies will take that risk.

Gaming companies are now research who their competitors are, and you will be surprised they count OTT players as their direct competitors as a lot of gamers are reducing gaming and watching more Netflix/PrimeVideos :P

No offense to anyone but expectations should have been kept in check. When both Amazon and FK clearly mentioned the range of dates when the system would come, i fail to see why there was an expectation that we would get it even before that range. My expectation was always 4-6 Feb

Lol exactly, not sure how Day 1 @ doorstep is expected. Even in Series X case it was only few of them who got it like that..  Please don't abuse customer care and loose your order.. I don't think the delay would be more than 2 days.. As long as it says "Preparing for Dispatch" on Feb 2nd or Feb 3rd its a big win...
