500 for seriesX

399 for Lockhart

My prediction. Cpu and ssd could increase cost.

399 for lockhart will be a failure if PS5 digital edition is priced the same or 449$.

The difference in price should be at least 100$

So its a 1080p60fps/1440p 30fps machine with same seriesX cpu and ssd but with weaker gpu in terms of tera flops but faster than One X gpu performance wise as it will be part of new Series X RDNA2 architecture, system ram will be around 10GB with 7gb for games. So you will not see major compromise as CPU and SSD are same as Series X. Only difference will be graphics details which is same as you playing on gtx 280ti and im playing on gtx 260ti.

Lel.

It will be 1080p 30fps machine, as rumours J have read. Which os not bad at all if it comes for 249$.

Second, an insider has mentioned that Lockhart can be priced half that of XSX.

So 249/299 look very legit if they sell XSX for 499$

But I’m convinced that Sony will take a short term hit and go with 399$,, they have done it last two gens and while PS3 couldn’t win PS4 did.

PS5 at 399$ will kill both Lockhart and XSX. Market has shrunk a lot, spending is down due to corona, 20m Americans are unemployed, pricing matters more than ever.

lol they could have continued to sell Xbone x instead of making new SKU.

During their July conference they could have announced it Don Mattrick style.

"Don't have 500 dollars? we have a product for you, it's called Xbox One X"

IIRC , the worlds most powerful console aka one X already does native 4k at 60fps. What is the need of lockhart then?

I dont think Sony wants to take a big hit this gen. They've tried to keep the costs down on ps5 even if it means the specs to be weaker than XSX. And the way they keep saying its a premium console and with all the SSD propoganda, it's likely going to be 450-500.

Current BOM of PS5 is inflated because of jacked up component prices.

@CarbonCore said the BOM is 460$, I believe it will be easily 415-425$ in normal times. Hit will be much lower than what it looks like now, after December. So sell at 449 for a small loss and then it's profit.

Should take courage and sell it on 399$ and screw MS for this generation.

In console gens you get the early lead you win the gen, by a wide margin.

They were only be able to match up and exceed the X360, inspite of getting btfo by $600 because of RROD, and PS3 being a superior console later on, with total multimedia entertainment features, lots of quality exclusives, FREE MULTIPLAYER and PS+ being Game Pass before it was cool.

Currently it's brinkmanship, both of them are waiting for the other guy to announce price first, then they do $50-$100 cut

Exactly.

The lead is everything, early adopters are usually the one who will spend a lot on games too. They will buy any Yearly sub and there comes the missing 50$ all for MS/Sony.

Once you have the lead, a lot of things don’t matter, including Platform-exclusives. And this is “one of the” reasons PS3 lost out to 360, despite being a great console with BD, awesome exclusives.
There are other reasons too, but launch lead and launch pricing simply sets the tone.

Have to disagree with you. PS3 did not lose out to the X360. The 360 had the lead, true but PS3 caught up by mid-gen, and surpassed it later. Good Exclusives matter a lot. Early PS3 gen was missing quality exclusives. We had games like Genji: Days of the Blade, Untold Legends, Resistance 1 etc., but they were not highly regarded. Meanwhile MS had the (at the time) brand new Gears Series, Mass Effect Series, Dragon Age, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey etc. Bioware, before being acquired by EA, used to almost exclusively develop for MS on the console front. Then you had the fact that 3rd poarties found PS3 hard to develop for and the more expensive pricing - all lead to the early MS Lead.

But once the exclusives clicked for Sony, i.e., once Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted 2 and God of War 3 came out - there was no looking back. Excellent exclusives after exclusives, Free multiplayer with the (At the time excellent PS+ free games), console prices coming down due to PS3 Slim, all lead to PS3 sales shooting past X360, despite MS doing stunts like buying GTA 4 DLC exclusivity for 360. It was a close race, but by the end of the gen, PS3 was actually slightly ahead (87 million units vs 360's 84 million units). But ignoring just nos., I would say Sony came out ahead by a wide margin, because they developed multiple well known IPs and brought up multiple studios that are very famous today. Meanwhile MS was left with almost nothing, since they had essentially depended on money-hatting 3rd parties through-out the gen.

And that, along with MS's brilliant marketing led to the absolutely amazing 8th Generation, where Sony was able to almost get in vicinity of the PS2 nos and MS is wherever it is. 7th Gen hardware units sold-wise though Wii won, since they could get the (What is Today) Smartphone crowd with their motion controls and Wii Sports.

I think I didn't mean it that way. Exclusives matter to the fans, I can totally see people who saw best of MGS series on PS2 ,had all reasons to buy PS3 for MGS4

and Exclusives matter to people who genuinely like to play good games, if they don't have that console, they buy it.

I was talking more about the general crowd, fo whom it is not much of bother, who are happy with their yearly fix of CoD or whatever good out there.

You have launch lead, you get bigger base at beginning then you have more such people falling in your net.

Now, these guys see an awesome exclusive coming on console other than what they own.....not too many jump ships.

The CPU is too weak. Even if the new SKU matches the Xbone X in TFLOPs, the architectural improvements and SSD would make it punch way above what the numbers suggest.

You should watch the Digital Foundry video that released a while back on why TFLOPs dont matter anymore.

No One X got jaguar cpu and a mechanical HDD. Too dated now. Plus they already stopped manufacturing Xbox one systems now.

As far as TFLOPS are concerned then it will still give some advantage in terms of overall stable performance. PC cards are perfect example of it .

It's wrong to say they dont matter at all.
