The Xbox Series X|S thread

Thoughts:

  • Need to see the specs. If this is priced at 25k-30k and gives say, RTX 2070 equivalent levels of performance. Thats an amazing deal and I'm not even counting savings from game-pass
  • Most people are still on 1080p and if you dont have a PC, playing next gen games at that price point is really good.
  • Would really love it if Sony had something similar. Would be an instant buy for me.
  • Small SSD is worrying. Pretty much everyone will have to use another drive.

I was thinking abt shelling out some cash to upgrade my 2070S. I can probably get this instead for the same cost and use it to play backwards compat titles.

Hope Indian pricing for this and PS5 are decent

512 gb - 150 odd GB (give or take) for OS and other features. So you'll get around 350 gb.

So 1 copy of call of duty and 1 copy of any other game

Xbox does as far as i know , you can store games on your external hdd that you own and move them to the internal for its benefits.

PS4 also does it. You can even play both xbox and PS4 games from external hard disks. I have 2 HDDs full of xbox and PS4 game backups lol. I seriously hope this continues next gen so that the 512gb SSD is sufficient.

all digital looks like a good next-gen entry level console .... if price is confirmed to be $299, seems like a decent buy to play the cross-gen titles until the dedicated console specific games come towards the mid of the generation !

So, here's a thought. If someone has a 1080p/1440p TV/monitor already, with a good internet connection, wouldn't it make sense to just get the Series S instead of the Series X?

The only clear advantages that the Series X has over the Series S is an internal 1TB storage and support for next-gen only games at 4K 120FPS.

But is that so beneficial that it justifies the higher price-tag? I mean just how much of a visible difference will 4K have over 1440p?

It has a more powerful gpu and ram presumably. It will give you better performance over the years even if used at 1440p.

$300 is good price for entry level next-gen gaming. 1080p-1440p is still solid choice as long they can maintain 60FPS. Rather have 60FPS over 4K30FPS.

That said 512 GB for digital only console seems low. I don't know how these are features as well.

- Variable rate shading - Variable refresh rate - Ultra-low latency

MS is just trying to pull a fast one with wordplay.

But other than that looks pretty decent at 299.

People are happy shelling out 1000$+ on mobile phones which lose 50% of it's value in 6 months, but want consoles for price of pennies which will last them years.

600$ was way too much during the days of PS3 launch, but i really don't mind paying 600$ for a console now if it can give me a solid 4K 60 FPS. I would also not mind a 700$ price, but now with a console refresh mid life, need to factor that cost as a part of TCO.

299$ is a kick a*s price for entry level console for next gen.

Somehow people forget the expense of phone. I see $1000 coming out every year and gets sold out... Even average working person ends up buying every couple of years if not every year but doesn't want to pay $300-500 for console that lasts for 7+ years...

Can never understand $1000 phones. Ridiculous.

Not just performance but the visual fidelity should also be much better and 1440p is not a given for every title. Watch this go down to 1080p in a couple of years.

And just because it can run means nothing. Even witcher 3, doom, outer world can run on the switch, the visual gap is just too big.

Theoretically it would be better to get Series S but best to wait for the benchmarks and see what games really run like.

Yes but if you are spending $1000 every year or two, then don't complain about $300-500 console once every 5 to 7 years...
