The Xbox Series X|S thread

Recommended Posts

Yeah, with 1/3rd the GPU power, I wonder how SS can deliver the same graphic fidelity as SX by just lowering resolution. There has to be more trade-offs..Even if it does 1080p 30fps, that should be decent enough.

The SS seems like nice move, hopefully it doesn't hold back the capabilities of next-gen games.

Companies should really stop over promising.

With less than 40% cores and a lower clock speed, no way it can run things at 1/2 the target resolution of Series X. Settings will have to be turned down to run things on S at 2k.

It's a good deal even if it does 1080p. No need for overhyping.

Developers start dropping resolution as gen goes forward because they keep pushing the graphics. Same thing happened with PS360 and with current gen. Once SX games start targeting 1440p watch the SS res start tumbling down to below 1080p. That UE5 tech demo already sweats the PS5 at 1440p.

Sam, please add Xbox One X as well..the launch price for that was 47,990 (That’s what I can see on my One X box) so good pricing on the Series X.

I don’t think it’s fair to call it as Premium Price as GST is 18% compared to US sales tax which is about 7-8%

Taxation on consoles has reduced and not increased in recent years.

Yes I heard after GST it came down . Don't know exactly how much but I think 5-7% right? You should be knowing the exact ones. If PS5 IS 499$ I think Indian pricing will be around 47000.

Also Microsoft maybe doesn't want to loose money here in the Indian market as they don't feel they will benefit later like in the us and hence the more premium?

A 10k premium. Hopefully if we get a 10% cashback on Debt/Credit, even if it's capped at 3k. Then I personally think it makes sense to buy from India. No waiting around for the flights to start and trying to get hold of someone or go on a trip to get it yourself. You'll get warranty too.

Sam's post above says 13K. I might be willing to spend an extra 10K (after 3K off with CC/DC) if I was getting the PS5 which will be 50K hopefully.

For the Series S, which should be 22K as per US prices, it pinches me more paying that kind of a premium for warranty lol.

I'm in no hurry to buy this, might as well buy it whenever I go abroad. Will have to see UK prices as I might go sometime next year. I just wanna play Forza in peace.

Hopefully regional pricing with regard to PS5 is better. But no hurry to get to that either. Unless there is a new Uncharted title, or something from Rockstar, I'm fine with the PS4 for another year or so.

Edit- I do have a 4K TV though, so it might make sense to just go for Series X. The money I pay in India for Series S can get me the big brother if I can haul it from the US.

If > TF = > Power (Ms logic), that means series S is weaker than one X?

It will destroy One X in performance thanks to faster cpu,ssd and Ram, but will play games at lower resolution than One X.

That's my guess but ultimately DF analysis will tell where Series Stands compared to One X :)

This.

But then, MS India had to mess up the XSS Indian pricing. ?

Pretty sure even Sony India will have a similar conversion rate (or whatever) and mess up the Indian pricing. ?

Grey market se leliyo cheap. MS consoles are very reliable now. Made by Surface team.

You should've said Tflops are not an accurate indicator of real world performance especially when dealing with different architectures. RDNA 2 Tflops > RDNA Tflops. 4 can better than 6 here.

One X not RDNA. Its Polaris. Polaris gpu are not sold in market anymore. Its that old.

Pointless console that Series S is.

M neither getting next gen feeling nor getting it cheap. 99% i have to upgrade storage.

Would rather buy current gen console for cheap than this. Why would third party optimize for 2 xbox consoles,it will be 1080p most of the times unless you play Indie Bhindi. Gamepass anyways is available everywhere.

Chu MS.

Series X is doomed.

EA Play addition has suddenly made Gamepass pretty awesome.

Annual sports franchises will likely remain a year behind but thats all right.

I would like to see Gears/Battlefield/CoD running on S, if its Solid 30fps with same fidelity....it will be a  perfect thing alongside 5.

Looking at these prices, getting it from abroad will be the best option. But these things are huge specially if the PS5 is priced at a premium here getting that from abroad is going to be a pain. Same goes for xbox x.

It will be a PITA for anyone carrying it in luggage. I expect it to be quite heavy.

Also dont see many people travelling international due to covid situation.

Those games will run at 60 on S. You forgetting CoD and BF games are always 60fps even on current gen

In above video you can see Gears 5 running at 120fps on S in multiplayer and campaign will be 1440p60fps

Yeah, I totally had brain fade. I thought thats only X.

But I really like to compare fidelity. OneX ran it with 4k@60fps, it feels unreliable that S can do 1/2 of 4K that is 1440@120 with same details.

A part of the article I really liked:

Xbox isn't playing the game. It's setting its own rules and breaking from the well-established conventions. Microsoft is threatening to launch a console without any real exclusives of any kind, it's telling its audience it can just play on PC or xCloud, and its main focus is a subscription service that you can already access on the current console and even PC.

Compare that to PlayStation 5, with its simple positioning, impressive software launch line-up, and huge PS4 player base to upgrade, and the results seem inevitable. I refer you back to our 'console war is over' article, where I predicted Xbox will continue to dominate in subscriptions, Nintendo will keep growing its character IP (and the latest Super Mario Direct only furthered that), but it is PS5 that will likely be the next generation's best-selling platform. Everybody wins.

I think there's a high chance his 'prediction' might happen. MS (it seems) just wants you to be in their ecosystem, regardless of the device you have.
