Without a disc drive to read, how does anyone expect to run current gen game in the first place in the new console ? Isn't back compat feature only limited to disc versions even in ps systems ?

You can buy the game digitally from Xbox store. I think most OG Xbox games are $10. They're also on GP.

I meant if I have a digital purchase already, can I play it in the next gen console ? Most of my purchases have been digital this gen (including all the free stuff from psn+)

But yeah, gamepass games should be playable, they even showed it in the ad.

It's playable. What DF are assuming is that the native 4k and other optimization (better textures, assets, etc) MS and other devs made for xbox one X to their older games won't work here as series S is not powerful enough as the old console.

I was thinking about that too. But I think you're cool with digital games, be it off GP or regular purchases to work from the get go.

Supposedly, the Elite controllers, old or new, will also work with it, since those were expensive. Thats kinda neat to be honest.

^^All Xbox One related accessory will work.

Any officially licensed Xbox One accessory that connects to your console wired or wirelessly via USB will work on Xbox Series X. Additionally, any headsets that connects via your Xbox Wireless Controller’s 3.5mm port will also be supported.

Microsoft has also revealed a list of third-party companies making XSX accessories (34 in all) and some of the products they’re working on:

And confirmed.

Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next generation console and play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR.”

One step forward, 2 steps back.
