M$ paid 2/3rd as premium to Zenimax shareholders 
it was all over the news 

also google,Amazon buying it would have been no different 
actually even better for PS fans than what has happened now 
 
they would have locked all the IP’a new & old behind their subscription wall
 
would have released it on all platforms just as before ,coz PS5 is not their competition 
now the new & not so Big IP’s like Starfield,Doom,Wolfenstein are defacto console exclusives for Xbox 
 
I don’t know what stuff is in the air today but I’d definitely like that 
 
 
Also Disney will only lock Marvel,Starwars & other owned properties behind their subscription paywall 
 
ppl will still be able to go in theatres & buy it digital/disc to watch it anytime they want 
 
investing billions of dollars into these deals to lock it for smallest of marketshare is not the smartest thing to do 
unless you think like an Xbot of course  

If Microsoft makes them exclusives it’s going to be on Xbox PC and xcloud ... ps is big when compared to Xbox one but install base is 100-150 million that has remained constant for last 2-3 generations...
Microsoft plans to go big with gamepass and xcloud if they are successful

Tbh it's not that different from every other gen if you combine their console and handheld numbers. This gen they consolidated their business so it's just one big number.

How much would Sony earn if they made their games non exclusives ... sell them on Xbox and PC .. but it’s more useful to keep them exclusives to drive them to ur Ecosystem...

but I hate this exclusives thing... buy one console and be done with it 

 

edit — they are not gonna remove existing titles but future titles if they do exclusivity...

By locking people on your ecosystem, you are not earning from FP sales but also from every 3rd party game sold. How may games do you expect Sony /MS to churn out as a software publisher to meet the same kind of revenues?

It is even more than that if you consider sales of games like 3D Mario, Smash, MK8, Zelda, and AC. Each of those franchises have sold more than their previous entries did last gen on both handheld and homes systems combined at almost half the install base and they are still selling.

Why would people shift to Xbox if these games come to ps5 too ? If they wanted timed exclusivity they wouldn’t have bought them outright for 7.5 billion ... could have got exclusivity cheaper

Nintendo knows exactly how many consoles and games they sell in India. It's "grey market" to us but it comes through legit Nintendo channels who know exactly how much is going to India. Switch has probably already sold more than either of the new Xbox consoles will sell throughout the generation in India. And at no additional cost to Nintendo.
