The Xbox Series X|S thread

So I'm in the last few chapters of plague tale innocence and really like the game but mainly for the story and atmosphere. The gameplay while varied tends to be pretty dry. There are some really easy puzzles, combat is rudimentary and there is generally a very specific way to go about any area.

That said the game is wonderfully acted, atmosphere is top notch and the graphics are amazing.

Hugo is really cute, too.

Similar thoughts. Gameplay was average but the rest was pretty good. I especially loved the art style and graphics.

Am planning to pick Max payne 3 on series x. Does the BC version hold well today?

Looks dated. I played in 2019 on PC again and it didn’t feel that good.

Unfortunately, Max Payne 3 never made it to the BC list. One of the major misses. I have a sealed copy on PS3 - didnt get a chance to open it before I got YLODed. Any chance of playing it on Xbox is lost too.

Don't buy series s, that thing will become obsolete in 2 years.

Better wait for series X price drop, the exclusive lineup specifically for next gen isn't great for the coming year anyway.

Lol. Series S cannot be obsolete in two years, probably in 4 Years. With the same CPU-GPU it will get obsolete along with Series X. At beat Series S won’t run graphics heavy games as well as X will. On what basis can you say XSS will obsolete in two years?

Weaker GPU, Weaker CPU, lower RAM. Its significantly Weaker than series X and devs will likely stop bother optimizing games for it, unless it ends up selling more than series x

I have already bought ps5... Series S i want to purchase for xbox exclusives... Will there be any exclusives worth the investment this gen? ? Last gen xbox exclusives makes me pretty unsure though

Don’t buy Series S at full MRP. I got it with 31k, you should be able to get around that price during sales. And if PS5 is your primary platform, it totally makes sense to go for XSS, just check some gameplay on YouTube. It’s very capable device with decent upscale to 4K, not something to go crazy about.

A good read

Weaker by what degree? How much? When you say obsolete it means it won’t be able to run new games in two years. Do you think that will happen? Look at the life original Xbox One had, it is even now running games long after One S and One X came out. It was slower, but could run all games

Yes it could run, because devs did not have to optimise for one X until 2017. Also performance on one S for most games is poor and just acceptable levels. Poor textures, poor framerate, poor resolution.

Most people aren’t unnecessarily affected by technicalities, and most people are still playing games on 1080p 30fps setup, be it PC or PS4 or Xbone. 4K gaming isn’t mainstream yet. If you check the penetration rate and volume of 4K TVs across different countries, you’ll get the real picture.

To discourage others from buying Series S by saying it will be obsolete in two years is a vague speculation, where past shows that even 7 year old Xbox One is still running all the games. If bottlenecked Jaguar can survive this long, there’s no way Zen 2+RDNA2 cannot for 4 years.

CPU not weak. Its almost same in CPU department. Just weaker in GPU bandwidth and memory department but its still solid 1080p machine as long as devs optimised games for it

And its mandatory that SX game run on S as well. Devs cant just skip S. There's a reason it says X/S enhanced on box.

If he is not affected by performance, it makes more sense to buy a cheap one S / one X instead of dropping 35k on series S, which barely offers much performance upgrade over one X anyway. MS has already promised support for one s/x for all first party games. For third party he is already buying a ps5.

MS promised support for one x and S till 2021 and surprise surprise no first party titles coming in 2021. Even Halo Infinite looks like a big maybe.

Name first party games that are coming to XSX/XSS but not coming to last generation in 2021.

Performance is important but not to the extent you mentioned frame rate and texture individually. Question is, is 1080p poor according to the majority of the gamers? What frame rates are do they expect, do they even notice the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps?

XSS is a pretty good deal at 31k price point. It's a proper next gen, just not a 4K next gen. It's good GamePass machine. GamePass games are mostly not demanding on cpu-gpu specs. Smart delivery ensures specific asset for Series S.

Buying a One X at this point is totally worthless, even if the price becomes the same. Series S is  better than One X due to the newer architecture of CPU and GPU and the SSD alone. It will be more evident when more games come out. MS won't give priority to last gen, it will prove to be predatory for both the newer consoles.

I don't know. If XSX games keep targeting 4k 30 till the end of the gen, XSS has a shot.

But if XSX itself starts dropping to 1440p then XSS situation looks bleak.

I would personally not recommend anyone to go for XSS when PS5 DE is available for 5k more.

It makes zero sense to me to move to next gen with only marginal increase in performance or even drops in some cases.

I only suggest XSS as a second platform for XGP. Like @Messy, I am also going for PS5. In such case ₹31k didn't feel steep, especially since I sold my orignal Xbox for little over 8k.

If MS abandons XSS in 3-4 years they'll lose customers to Sony. Look at how Xbox Live pricing sent them to panic mode.

PS5 digital edition is a costly affair considering digital game pricing and absence of GamePass like library at such cheap price. PS5 disc version with the ability to trade is bliss
