The Coronavirus Thread Part 2

Food delivery and app-based Cabs were two things which were working awesome-ly in Metros.

Many restaurants weren't doing well with dine-in but crutching on food-delivery.

Shops in the Malls were fked earlier too (because of e-com) but food-courts & movie-halls were keeping things moving.

Now those are gone too.

Hotels & resorts were doing Okish, but OYO was getting them business

....now entire hospitality business is crapped.

Airlines business wasn't profitable for operators but Indigo was still making money, people were travelling for leisure not just for business.
Now it is reduced to a business. primarily for evacuating stranded people.

Covid has f**ked our economy really bad. :|

What's scary is that there's no endgame in sight yet :(  Not really sure how long can the economy go on like this.  Companies might start terminating their leases/contracts on office space, security , catering, cabs etc., if the numbers dont come down soon (its already 3 months and there's no peak in sight),  bringing down a big chunk of the eco-system that's built around the working class.  I'm also doubtful what the future of IT support/office managers kind of jobs would be without a physical office space.  Same kind of issue might be faced by the new-age startups like moveinsync, hungerbox etc which built their business model around providing services to offices !   Also, with increased wfh, and parents not sending their children to school, many of the pre-schools and their teachers are facing the crunch as well.

Some companies have pivoted and are making a quick buck offering wfh related services like setting up workstations, desks etc too.

Not sure how would be the world when all this ends, but I think it would be very different than the one we had before this all started !

Lockdown is for Covid only, Bhai.

in fact, some of the indicators were showing recovery from slowdown which creeped in from 2018, now we are back to square or even below.

As per May 21st 2020 analysis, around 50% deaths in India are of people below 60. And in Maharashtra, maximum cases are of people aged between 31 to 40.

Even if we are controlling spread in old people, the young people are getting infected much more and deaths are more too. This is because young in India are mostly careless about their health and they don't even know if they are suffering from some comorbidities.

The country’s ‘first’ indigenous COVID-19 vaccine COVAXIN, developed by city-based Bharat Biotech in collaboration with ICMR and NIV, has got the nod for human clinical trials from the Drug Controller General of India, the company said on Monday.

The Phase I and Phase II clinical trials of the vaccine for SARS-CoV-2, approved after pre-clinical studies demonstrated safety and immune response, would start across the country next month.

I really hope this actually works, and is not approved just for the sake of greedy Babus making a quick buck.

Babus aren't the one who can approve it.

I know corruption can exist everywhere....but India's Science institutions are run by very capable folks.

But reverse of this is very much possible that it is not approved by pressure put by babus on this institutions so patented drugs and vaccine can make money.

Mumbai's 2-km radius diktat: Cops seize over 16,000 vehicles on Monday.

Quote

Mumbai Police had issued a diktat that allowed people to only move within a radius of 2 kilometers around their homes.

The diktat resulted in utter chaos on the streets as traffic jams became a common sight in a city that continues to grapple with rising Covid-19 cases.

Memebai police needs to cover for the losses of the last 3 months. If they seize just your licence, pavti will be of 500 rs, seize the vehicle and the amt will be 10 times higher.

So wife was talking to a friend in Pune, whose acquaintance's parents, got Covid.

They were in Govt Hospital, but their condition became critical, and hence they thought of moving to Pvt Hospital.

But when they approached a private hospital, after knowing comorbids of the parents, Hospital asked them 1 CRORE to admit both.

WTF!

I'm gonna find out which hospital is this.
