The virus strain spreading in Amravati and Akola is “more transmissible” and seems to trigger pneumonia early in Covid patients, said Dr Subhash Salunkhe, an adviser to the state touring districts where cases have rapidly increased.
“It appears pneumonia is setting in early, thereby increasing the possibility of more deaths if cases rise rapidly,” he told TOI. At one Amravati centre, 350 out of 700 people tested positive. He said the spread could be from Nagpur till Aurangabad. “Nagpur to Aurangabad is a massive stretch, but with great contact and connectivity...We have a window of 15 days to contain this outbreak before it spreads to the rest of the state and country.”

I get the feeling there is near zero chance of this happening. The fear of Covid is gone from the people and for most people the most visible effect (since we barely memorialize or even notice the dead like the US constantly did) has been a loss of business and income. You can only frighten people for so long before they stop caring.

With the amount of people I see walking around with no masks or masks under the chin FFS, there should be free orders to publicly flog such idiots in the middle of the street. That's the only way people will learn.

Bro I'm in Amristar for a friend's wedding and this rickshaw driver got legit offended by me wearing a mask. He was like, aapki zindagi keemti hai humari zindagi ki koi keemat nahi?

And who's stopping him from wearing a mask ?

Pretty much same scene was here until early December. Then something happened and suddenly all auto wallas are full time on mask. The idiots are the supposedly well to do ones who think wearing mask is uncool or wearing under the chin is their way of saving lives.

Instead of fining/flogging, maybe people should have been educated about why and how to wear a mask. It worked in the rest of the world. Publicly, even our dear PM can’t be bothered to wear it anymore.

Every third world country has the same attitude: scare people into doing the right thing rather than tell them why they should do it. But once the fear leaves, people go right back to the old ways.

Fear worked then at the height of the lockdown because of danda. If that's what it takes for educated people to learn it the hard way, why not now?

The hard truth is we are a grossly undisciplined nation and only oppressive means like these can drive any sense of "falling in line"

Few Maharashtra cities like Pune, Amravati etc have night lockdown 11pm to 5 am. Wtf is the logic behind this? Who even roams at night in groups?

At the peak of lockdown, my complex had mandatory patrolling by security guards including the clichéd hitting the vibranium sticks on the ground all night. I'm led to believe corona runs wild like hulkamania around that timeframe.
