Closing malls completely is a bad idea. They should be allowed to operate on delivery basis only. The malls have supermarkets and food courts who fall under essential services. Same goes for clothing outlets or electronics etc and have brand showrooms that are not avb elsewhere. Closing them is going to hurt the businesses badly

I was literally shocked yesterday to see myself getting attacked from left right & centre for just putting out a statement that I heard other doctors saying around me & on TV

like it was deliberately carried over from some place else out of no where 

Bro, I just told you that no one wanted to be personal. And what left, right and centre you are talking about? You had this conversation with a real doctor. 

Other people started to get involved when you pushed it. I mean, your first reply was about asking me whether I owned an Xbox or not, have you ever seen me even talking much on that thread?

Food court is open in malls in mumbai, only for deliveries via zomato swiggy.

In my connections there are multiple people who earn their living via food stores and outlets located in malls. These people don't own mega brands like Zara but own individual outlets.

Last lockdown really put these guys on the road and I don't see how they will bear such curfews again.

But I don't see how else the Govt. can fix this, everytime I go out to buy groceries I see hundreds of people just taking it casual with their masks down to their chins. Some use a cig or some kind of eatable as an excuse. 

 

I wonder till when even such attempts will go on because it seems like people are ready to face the govt. and call it enough. Things might get violent. Hopefully not.

And there are far lesser chance of corona spreading in malls where the mall staff and shop owners go extra length to keep hygiene.

Almost all shops have stickers that say "no mask, no service".

And except in the food courts while having the food, 80% people keep mask on.

I am not saying there are no covidiots at all, but far lesser than you find in local shops, shops on streets, places of religious congregations...

 

If we don't recover this year, our economy is going to be destroyed completely.

India has added more number of poor last year than any other country.

Unemployment is going unchecked. We are going to be destroyed on fiscal front.

Shutting people from going to shop is depressing too. It's like locking yourself up. Disturbs your regular schedule, and also the customer smoothness. You'll be surprised how much stock people have riled up to fill April may, because it's the biggest marriage fest of the years. The least government could have done is help businesses people with some package.

My dad said this in local language translating it here 

The rich gets the loan , Poor gets the package , what the middle class get is just a paraphrase ", Be strong we will get out of this".

If you read previous thread it already has started. ATLEAST in my city where people refused to close shop inspite of police car driving every hour or so. And it's not entirely people's fault. They are fedup

Although at start, they measure the same.

Other's reading is fixed after measuring,

which is the faulty one of the two ?

Yesterday a Barber opened his shop in MH, he was beaten up by Police, he died.

Even I have a feeling we are looking at things going violent this time. You cant expect to take away someone's livelihood and have them sit quietly. The one's highly impacted by this are sure to rebel.

There was this report from a big consulting/analytics firm (I am forgetting the name) which came up with a term "New Middle Class" for households earning 20L per annum.

 

20LPA was at once considered to be quite a luxury but now, people falling in this bracket are no longer living in grandeur. Many people have debt and responsibilities.

 

For a while now, I have been fighting with my own self-thoughts. I have always been bullish on India (that's what made me not choose NUS for my bachelor's) but now I am questioning that decision (regretting?) each day. 

We Indians are subjected to the highest applicable tax rate in the world, even the middle class has the highest tax rate but none of it is being used for us.

The rich are thriving like always, govt. is working to alleviate the poor by taxing the middle class to death.

Middle is not being able to afford the basic amenities buts still our govt. thinks that they are mining gold.

Where are the healthcare services which the middle-class deserves? What if even 10% of the budget spent in creating world's largest statue and museum was invested in healthcare?

 

I honestly am not too sure if I'll stay in India except for the initial years of my career.

Atleast where the tax is spent is visible in other countries, here you only get a tax return for it.

It's a worldwide problem. Even in the us The Health care system is Fu**** . 100 types of insurances and medical expenses are way beyond high.

I actually wasn't thinking about US but places like Canada, Singapore and even UK are much better. And in US if you are working at a good post in a decent firm, you get a decent insurance which is much better than the likes of India.

There's life beyond US and India. 

 

QOL is far better in many of EU countries/UK/ANZ/Canada/Singapore.  Ofcourse every country will have its own issues with immigrants, but the very fabric of India has been torn apart by the current breed of politicians. 

 

There's no reason why a hard working person should not strive to leave the country.

Can't lie. I'm trying, but COVID has changed the rules. WFH has become the norm, and many regional/global roles are now allowed, and to some level, expected to WFH from their country of origin. 

The manpower acquisition cost decreases since the payscale for roles is in line with country of operation. So it's cheaper to hire someone from India for a role based out of Singapore, but asking them to work out of India.

I don't think anybody has it worse than doctors (I don't know about other specialized sectors tbh, but general graduates, including engineering and IT ones have it far far easier. My wife is a senior IELTS tutor, so she sees a fair number of candidates monthly). sh*t ton of expensive exams, and then matching process. Age and number of attempts also play a huge role. When everything works, you start at a residency role (even if you've a megaton of experience in India). Becoming consultant takes quite a bit of time and a*s licking. People spend a decade of their life to depressingly come back where they started.

There's a theory that even though we are getting 2 lac cases a day, almost half are false positives so actual cases are much less.
Second theory is the virus will burn out by next year and 2021 is the pretty much the last year of Corona. So that's some good news for you guys.
