My bigger question is why are these people so eager to jump to "Hometown for festival"? There is a f**king pandemic for God's sake, I'm sure we can celebrate in a controlled manner. Same people will refuse to travel office citing they don't feel "safe" travelling , wtf:mellow:

I hear people saying these golden words between waves "Corona toh Gaya" "Corona ab khatam hai"

Getting deja vu. No social distancing, making goa plans, partying, shopping, making fun of people wearing masks, news articles on how India is doing better than other western countries etc.

Sad part is because of these morons, its actually the small/medium business owners and daily workers who end up suffering when govt locks down everything.

As much as it is hard to believe but such “plan maker” demographic is only a fraction of the ppl who are moving distances & becoming super spreaders.

Even if these ppl restrict themselves it’s not like there won’t be another wave if another immune escape variant emerged.

It’s all about the virus & not the ppl anymore,as simple as that.

It's was quite obvious that this will happen and people are only partly to be blamed.

We can't expect people to not meet their families or not go through their lives for 2 years in a row (possibly more).

It's not like every traveler chatted with every other traveler and did a bulk booking. They put their plans on hold last year but you can't ask people to not go home for Dusshera or Diwali.

One of our family friends (local to Goa) opened a resort just before pandemic hit and they were sucked dry by the loan collectors. They were doxed, they were threatened. Their lives became hell.

Only just now their business has started to pick up again, if people don't go, then I don't how they can cope up with it.

And there are equal number of small/medium scale businesses which have been hampered because of loss of travel. Majority depend on tourism activity especially during these festivals.

Just ask @rushaboswal, his business is very tourism and festival dependent.

We can't just stop the tourism and let such businesses into ditch.

It's quite impossible to do this in a controlled manner, only way is to get vaccinated and take precautions.

Although I do agree, that this particular situation could have been handled better by the authorities and people who don't practice social distancing, sanitization and don't wear masks, should be penalized.

But the answer is not to stay put year after year.

The rush must be due to the lack of staff. When I flew in April 4-5 of the 20+ check in counters were closed. Even when I visited the post office yesterday 60%  or more employee desks were empty and they were allowing walk-ins for aadhaar registrations. Every big & small retail business is short on staff either due to lack of employees or just plain cost cutting.

100% Agree. Just see what they have done for tourists for temple visits. Online booking no going / waiting at shops not allowing 2 wheerlers. Honestly im very very lucky as i started another venture in 2018 which is helping sail the boat and some more. If i was reliant on our big business linked to tourism we would have been in piles of debt by now . hope government too understands this . I  can already see a lot of stressed business and the online shopping is creating more dent as people are now just lazy to go out of home and get things. Here's hoping diwali seasons picks-up and no 3rd wave.
