Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Gathered the whole team till now

Things I'm enjoying

- Solas sections are great

- Combat is fun and varied, easily the best combat in a DA game. It's kind of like Hogwarts or Kingdom of Amalur.

- Environments are GORGEOUS and best optimised game since Doom Eternal and also practically bug free

- Lots of dialogue between party members during missions or just wandering (Lucanis/Bellara dialogue is hilarious)

- Big consequences of some of your choices

- Side quests are a lot better than DAI. Some pretty dark stuff.

Average things

- Story is ok, nothing great so far

- Artstyle is meh. I don't hate it but don't really love it either.

Things I'm not liking

- My biggest complaint: Giving 3 dialogue options is completely useless as they all end up sounding the same

- Can't talk to your companions if they don't have anything new to say. In previous bioware games like mass effect you could go through the old dialogue wheel to recap info. Here you can't even initiate conversations if they don't have exclamation sign on them.

- Some big lore drops happen and there is no reaction from the player.

- Dialogue feels stilted. Information is repeated too much.

Guys, I have played Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age II but have NOT played DA: Inquisition.

Can I pick up Veilguard and play it or must I first play through Inquisition?

This game picks up directly from the end of Inquisition Trespasser DLC.

I think you should play Inquisition. Not only because it leads into Veilguard, but because it's a great Bioware experience. It's now the best reviewed Dragon Age game.

Awritey, thanks my friend. I will first play through Inquisition and only then pick this one up. Don't want to ruin the experience of a fine series.

Just note 2 things about Inquisition

1. You can ignore the fetch quests. There are lots of boring mmo-style fetch quests in that game. Do only the story and companion quests.

2. Don't get stuck in the Hinterlands area. Lots of people keep doing quests here and then they stop playing because it never ends. Just do enough to become eligible for the next main quest, then fast travel back to your base and continue from there.

Also remember to import your choices into the game. It has lots of Easter eggs from past games.

Origins is amazing. I suggest play that game. Play on PC with mods. Its hardcore RPG with insane amount of choices and branching storylines.

Tables turn zodka? :P

I still criticize the game for forcing all DEI propaganda in the game but if you ignore all that then game is not bad overall.

No-one talked about how good the hairworks works, best I've seen in an RPG.

But bioware on whole have to work on their walking/running animation. It's as bad as Andromeda.

Lol i gave my dwarf lots of hair but I'm wearing a helmet all the time

Didn't notice anything bad about walk run animation but the facial animations need to be a lot better. Some scenes with Bellara the voice actress gives so much emotion but the face feels almost frozen

The walk/run animation is hilarious if your Rook is in casual pants. Its like Andromeda but less funny, but you can see the DNA in it.

Male and Female Rook got same walking animations.

Andromeda had separate male and Female walking animation.

My problem is that you can't be evil or rude in this game. All dialogues options are Paragon lol. You cant piss off companions or anything.  :(

Side quests has no impact on main story looks like. Im close to end of main story, just wrapping up companions quests. Overall it's good game but it's not a true Bioware RPG that i was hoping for. Its Ubisoft/Sony first party games like HorizonFW level of RPG.

My dwarf has short legs so the animation looks fine 😄

Yesss, that was the thing in previous games. I totally forgotten, you can be on evil side and the outcome depends on. This is why we don't want DEI to make games. They want to act all good, sweet and innocent to the world, always on feminine side. BG3 did so well in this regard.

Play DA Origins. Last true proper RPG from Bioware. Landsmeet section alone had 10 different outcomes.
