Not sold on the gameplay. I want a FF game not a DMC game in FF's guise

There has always been the two camps of FF players. The old veterans asking for a proper turn based rpg and the new ones asking for more action rpg. Its never easy to please either of the camps.

Though, couple of things i want from this game is,

1. Not to be like Forspoken

2. The RPG elements have more depth than being just surface level.

Well they did add Auto-Doge, auto select abilities, 1 push button combat in accessibility options and a story mode difficulty for the old veterans who likes the pause or turn based combat system :)

Also, i do not know if the environments are actually that grimm or its just the compression of the video. Lighting looked a bit off as well

I am not asking it to be like completely old school FF games. But ther has to be a middle ground IMO. This is straight up ARPG and looks nothing like a FF game.

You have to be completely clueless/ignorant if you think my of those have any relation to old turn based FF games. Likes of FF6 or Chrono Trigger have more depth in their gameplay than the likes of FF15 can ever hope to achieve. Only saving grace here is that it looks better than FF15's gameplay, which was horrible not just for a FF game, but for any game.

To be fair, this looks kinda responsive and fun. Depending on if they get difficulty balancing right.

Still, better to have fun action game than weird action - real time hybrid that gets overly tedious over 50 hrs playthrough.

Overall, could be first game on PS5 i find interesting without reservation. Liking the music and overall vibe.

Combat looks good. Not denying that. Just not something I want in a FF game. Anyway, lot better than what we got in FF15.

To be honest, FF has always been trying new gameplay styles. FF was never a proper turn based game, and always trying to be more action-oriented. Where other JRPG games used to be completely turn-based, FF had the ATB system - which limited how much time you could spend taking turns. Then they went for a pseudo-MMO system with FF12. Proper MMOs with FF11 and FF14. Mish-mash of action and turn based in FF7R etc. Nice that you remember FF6 btw!! Most of the people I've seen forget one of the best game(s) in the series and just keep on hyping up FF7 (as if it needs any more hype). Really hope they do a proper remake of FF6 like they did for FF7.

SE's traditional Turn-based game series (which will never deviate from turn-based in mainline games) is Dragon Quest (Which is far, far bigger than FF in Japan)

Also, really happy they went back to medieval fantasy. This was missing for a long, long time (ever since FF9) and opens up so many story possibilities!!

Again, I am not asking them to become dragon quest. But there has to be some DNA of FF combat. This is straight up DMC. Anyway, lets see how it plays.

Having said that, everything else looks incredible.

Definitely. Love that gameplay. I would love that gameplay in FF16's world.

Frankly even I was surprised they didnt use the same style in FF16. Personally love DMC and absolutely excited for ff16 combat, but I do agree the FF7 remake combat is much more suitable for Jrpgs
