Zelda and Mario games get preferential treatment only in reviews/metascore. For GOTY awards they are mostly on equal footing as other games. They do win sometimes cause some installments are really good. 

 

For Final Fantasy to win, it will need to be at least as good as FF 10 or 12. At that point they are up there. 

 

As for 16, I am seeing critics are divided so not sure it's at that level.

Yes, giving the credit where it's due man.

Zelda is Nintendo's first party crown jewel and people bought switches because of that game, it'd win by numbers but comparatively how wonderfully Final Fantasy 16 (a third party game) has done despite of not being as renowned title as Zelda is fascinating. It speaks a lot for itself.

And there was also a review bombing going on cuz it's not on Xbox and delay for PC players. But that too couldn't hold the honest users response.

Divided? There's literally 8 to 10 gave it a mixed review out of 150 critics who gave genuine positive reviews. You'll find this in every single game even Zelda. Can't say divided at all but the minority held grudges for not triggering their nostalgia. Some are still crying over it.

You seem to be really enjoying the game. 

 

I was just pointing out Zelda name has nothing to do with TOTK doing well. Final Fantasy is a big name as well. Both series has legions of fans. 

 

If the game was as good as FF X or XII, it would have no issue in competing with TOTK for GOTY awards. Nostalgia has nothing to do with it.

A big name has nothing to do with the sales? That's new. Generally an established name gets huge sale boost. Not sure what you're thinking. 

It's a good game but with bigger name on it you can see the impact difference. 

 

Why do you think FF16 won't be competing against totk? how are you comparing 17 to 20+ year model with newer versions? 

FF16 and totk an action adventure and puzzle rpg. Both are different on it's own and eligible to compete against GOTY. Both are really good games. 

 

Read again on what I've quoted you about nostalgia.

Finally completed Chronolith trials .... Damn thing is so addictive but not enough time. I lucked out on the last trial , otherwise I would have never completed it.

I started NG+ with FF mode. It's hard enough but surprisingly fun. I am not good with parrying rather always prefer dodge. Reset my ability points and invested in three powers for will draining and three powers for damage. It plays good for now.

Completed the semi prime fight and holy sh*t, such insanity! Fast and powerful all along, I tested my skills by taking as less damage as I can and it was sooo good!! 

Story is taking real turns and my jaw drops in each sections of gameplay and cutscenes. So awesome. 

 

and what you get after that fight

 

No dull moment, till now. I replayed the mission from Arete Stone.. I can play repeatedly and never get bored.

That's great news!! The World that was created with FF16 (Valisthea) is too awesome. There is a lot of scope for the World to expand, and there is a lot of scope for more stories to be told. We even have threads in the main game itself which can expand the game. For example (Taken from base game itself, but there are spoilers so be careful) -

 

Spoiler

The "Lost Eikon" Leviathan - The Eikon of Water which Joshua notes in Waloed (And is not present in-game. There is no Dominant of Water in-game. I say Water because Leviathan is always associated with water in all FF Games). The Adventures of Cid in his Younger Days and how he formed contacts with so many important people - along with his history with Benedikta. The Story of Barnabas and how he went Akashic. Other Gods in Valisthea (It's hinted that Ultima was not the only God) 

 

Sequels that expand the game after the events of FF16. It would be a shame if FF16 gets a one-and-done game. Especially when the World itself is so interesting. When FF7 can get new games that expand on it's World decades down the line - heck, when FF13 could get 3 extra games and FF15 could get multiple DLCs - then FF16 deserves more DLCs at the very bare minimum and sequels that expand the World too!!
