Guest
Done for today. Archon questline was fantastic and Ayaka quest was beautiful. ? Didn't like Yoimiya quest much but ending was nice. Instantly liked Thoma. Wasn't expecting Childe vibes at all. Sara and Gorou made their mark too. Raiden of course stole the show while Yae and Kokomi didn't get much screentime. Maybe in next update/quest they will but so far so good.

Ethan_Hunt
Fired this up yesterday and as an absolute newbie player, I'm sort of overwhelmed by the content in the game. It's good to know that the combat isn't turn-based and I can directly get into the battle. I was just messing around the Island and ignored where Paimon kept leading me. Ended battling a few of those water bubble like enemies and those clobberin' goblins. Went onto open the gazillion chests scattered throughout and then finally decided to re-group and progress to where I met Amber. I have to say, for a free-to-play game, the visuals are very polished as is the presentation. The UI could really use some work. I mean the key binding is weird on PS5. Why not use the track pad to open the map? It seems to bind everything to the radial menu. We can't seems to use the D-Pad buttons to scroll in the man menu either. I didn't see any manual save option either. I did quit once mid quest to see how it saved and thankfully, it retains everything I gathered from the point I quit the game. Does it auto-save? What's the indication? At this early stage, I assume, I just progress through the main storyline? If yes, then should I bother to raise any of my character's levels through that XP book? My base character remains static in the party right? Also what's the end game post the main story's completion? Loot stuff, get the best gear, level up characters and....? I think it saves every time it detects a change to your character, like when you gain some xp or something is added to your inventory. Don't worry about saving. Yes just progress through the storyline. Explore as you see fit. Nothing is set in stone. The joy and appeal of the game is the quests, characters & exploration. You can use any character combination. Even without your main character. Having a balanced party is more essential (DPS/Support/Elemental synergy) but you don't have to worry about all that now. For end game, post-story and post-exploration, its to get more characters, level them up, and grind for the absolute best artifacts. (Artifacts are items you equip to raise your stats)
Guest
Nice. Welcome to Teyvat. ? 11 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: I didn't see any manual save option either. Everything is server based. You can alt-f4 and it will save automatically and resume from where you left off. Doesn't work if you alt-f4 in middle of mission or domain run which is understandable. 12 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: At this early stage, I assume, I just progress through the main storyline? Login Check your resin (open map -> top right you will see half moon icon). It will show your resin. 160 is cap. 180 per day. It recharges 1 every 8 minutes. Daily empty this on leylines (you will find it on map - blue/yellow circles) Continue your story and explore the world Don't level up starter chars. Maybe to level 20 for now. You can have 4 chars in a team. At start you will get Amber/Lisa/Kaeya. Barbara will join later. Xiangling is free from abyss floor 3 clear (you will come across this later). There is no rush or anything. You can play at your own pace. 14 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Also what's the end game post the main story's completion? Loot stuff, get the best gear, level up characters and....? Current endgame is Abyss. It resets every 2 weeks. Getting 36 stars is the goal. Collecting characters, building them, exploring worlds, making team comps, etc all come under part of end game. The game has plenty to offer for everyone. Be it casual or hardcore. You also don't have to spend a dime to play the game.

I noticed that we didn't have any armour being equipped on the character, is that what artifacts are meant to compensate instead to enhance the stats? Also what are those constellations? 2 minutes ago, Joe Cool said: Nice. Welcome to Teyvat. ? Nice, let me check on the resin thing later. Might I ask what does it do exactly? Also who is the healing character in early game? At the moment, I heal my character by going into the menu and eating a fruit. Is that the right way or am I missing something? Pardon these basic questions. 7 minutes ago, Joe Cool said: Current endgame is Abyss. It resets every 2 weeks. Getting 36 stars is the goal. So do we get any new higher level bosses or something to try out the higher tier party abilities or do the existing stuff in the game get buffed up that we need to defeat? Characters have HP/DEF/ATK as primary stat + their ascension stat (varies depending on character - some give HP, some give ATK, some give CC/CD/damage, etc,.) You increase their base value by levelling character. Anything more than base comes from artifacts. Total 5 artifacts each character. Various amounts of sets available to mix-min-max. 3 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Also what are those constellations? Constellations are extra copy of your character. They unlock small benefits. All chars have unique C1/C2/C4/C6. C3 and C5 are reserved for +3 talents to character skill/burst. Don't worry about constellations for now. You will get more dupes later on as you play. 4 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Nice, let me check on the resin thing later. Might I ask what does it do exactly? Resin is basically your daily currency. You spend to gain resources. You cannot unlimited farm valuable items (like artifacts/boss materials/gold, etc). Leylines (for XP books and Mora which is gold currency) - cost 20 resin for 1 run. Domains (for artifacts/talent books/weapon materials) - cost 20 resin for 1 run. There are also weekly bosses. 3 out of 4 bosses cost 30 resin while 4th boss cost 60 resin. Lesser valuable items can be farmed as much you want. Like enemy materials, plants, weapons exp materials ores, low level artifacts to dump, etc,. These are all required for character ascension/talents and weapons. So don't think of it as bad because they don't cost anything to grind. 8 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Also who is the healing character in early game? At the moment, I heal my character by going into the menu and eating a fruit. Is that the right way or am I missing something? You will get Barbara who is a dedicated healer. She will keep you alive and useful till AR30-40. After that also you can use her but value kind of lost as there are characters who can heal while also giving you damage boost (like Bennett or Diona for example). You can also heal using food items/fruits/whatever eatables you find. You can go to statue of seven to heal as well. 9 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Gotcha! So do we get any new higher level bosses or something to try out the higher tier party abilities or do the existing stuff in the game get buffed up that we need to defeat? Everything scales up as you progress. There are set of world rank ascension quests you need to beat to increase the world level. If you are unable to beat or find it hard, then you might not be ready for it. Higher level gives better drops and domains have 100% gold artifacts. Pre-AR45 you don't always get gold artifacts. Gold is highest rarity. White -> Green -> Blue -> Purple -> Gold. AR = adventure rank. This is your base account rank. Whatever you do will increase this rank. Story/exploration/quests/domains, etc will increase it. Levelling up characters do not increase this. BEP = Battler pass rank. You will unlock it later on as you progress. BP is completely optional. There is free and paid version. Character XP = only from playing or levelling up using books.

Yep 6 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Also what are those constellations? So, you can roll RNG for new characters. (called wishes) Sometimes when you're wishing for a new character, you will get a character you already have. In this case the constellation will unlock. 9 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Nice, let me check on the resin thing later. Might I ask what does it do exactly? I would say don't worry about all this Resin stuff for now. This is more mid-game or end-game level stuff. Very simply put, resin is a currency that you spend in order to get rewards from item / gold farms. 13 minutes ago, Ethan_Hunt said: Also who is the healing character in early game? At the moment, I heal my character by going into the menu and eating a fruit. Is that the right way or am I missing something? Barbara is the healing character you get. There are 3 ways to heal - Eat food. You can eat apples or better yet, cook food for higher bonuses. - Healing character - Go to a Statue of The Seven. Stay next to it for a couple of seconds. It will heal everyone in the party and bring dead characters to life.
Guest
I agree that resin stuff comes more into play mid and late game. However, since it is limited currency, you shouldn't let it sit doing nothing. Pre-AR30, you should use your daily resin on leylines. Get those XP books and mora (gold). With little bit of artifact runs if you feel like you are having tough time to kill. Don't worry about weapon mats/levelling though. Unless you have good weapon, don't waste resources on bad/low tier ones. Don't craft weapons yet either. Use what you have. Wishes = basically your way to get new characters/weapons. Do not waste your primogems on standard banner. Only use it on limited banner. Primogems is your wish currency (top left) Pink fates are called Interwind fates and are used on limited banner and weapon banner. Don't bother with weapon banner. Blue fates are called Acquaint fates and are used only on standard banner. For now, just play normally, follow the story, characters, explore world. The game will cover a lot of stuff as you play and learn. If you have questions, feel free to post.

Yes this would be the "optimal" way to play but I think focus for a new player should be to ease them into the game and make sure they're having fun. Ethan_Hunt already said he was feeling overwhelmed with the game so i didn't want to burden him with more stuff. This just seems like busywork / a chore for a new player since they won't feel the need for those resources right now. Maxing out Resin is no use if he's not having fun. This is subjective but for me quests and exploration is way more fun than doing domains and leylines, so I wanted to keep the focus on that.
