Now after four installments, Silent Hill is all set to return, this time on next generation of consoles, Playstation 3 and XBOX 360. Tyler
I'm not entirely sold out on the idea of anyone else but Team Silent developing tha game, but the previews look good. Besides I'm a die-hard Silent Hill fan so I'm more excited about this than any other future game (yes, even more than GTA IV and Mass Effect). It looks like it's a combination of Silent Hill 4 and the previous games. I really liked SH4 inspite of all the general fan hate. It did take it's time to pick up but it was one hell of a ride! I actually ended up having nightmares about my room being haunted after playing it at late nights! Anyway, as long as they keep the atmosphere, the bizarre creatures, a creepy hospital and Akira Yamaoka's music, I'll like it!

Tyler
It's cool they included the peeling effect and the horn from the movie adaptation! Looks great!! I dunno about anyone else but to me Silent Hill is like your GTAs, Halos and MGSes...
MarketTantrik
PLAY magazine scares up new Silent Hill V info From Xbox 360 Fanboy __________________________________________________________ The fine folks over at SilentHill5.net have uncovered new Silent Hill V details by way of PLAY magazine. We have learned that the flashlight and static emitting radio will make a return after they went inexplicably missing in Silent Hill 4. Also, monsters will react to your flashlight (or any light source), particularly the series' trademark nurses -- this becomes especially apparent (and frightening) when you have to use an X-ray viewer to solve a puzzle. Thankfully, Silent Hill V abandons cinematic camera angles in favor of a player-controlled camera, so hopefully you won't get jumped while solving said puzzle. Speaking of puzzles, the game incorporates button matching segments similar to those found in God of War and Shenmue for certain segments -- like loosening the straps on your gurney, for example. Why are you in a gurney? Don't ask. Finally, the game incorporates a new system in which players must tend their wounds. Untended wounds will affect gameplay. In a nice twist, wounds affect enemies too. Somehow, we doubt that fact will be of any comfort as scads of demented nurses use your body for surgical practice. __________________________________________________________
Tyler
^^ The wounds mechanism reminds me of Call of the Cthulhu. It was a good system but turned a bit frustrating later on. However it should work well for SH since combat is somewhat secondary in these games (except SH4). Also, I like the idea of a player controlled camera this time. There have been so many times when I've jumped while playing SH2 and SH3 because of that!

Liquid ocelot
I hope it's better than SH4...kinda disappointing...the story wasnt as strong..but gameplay wise it was pretty good.. But what are team silent doing anyway?? Why outsource?
Tyler
^^ Even I am a bit torn over the fact the game has been outsourced. But then again, this will be the first SH game on next gen consoles, so there's no way in hell I'm not buying it! With that said, I'm also sure they can never make another game like Silent Hill 2, Team Silent or otherwise! As for SH4, I really didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. By the time I was halfway through I couldn't stop playing! Towards the end it really started freaking me out, especially whenever you have to go back to the apartment. That was some really creepy stuff!
SchizoidFreud
silent hill 2.... pyramid hears FTW!
Tyler
Pyramid Head was ok, I mean he's a really hyped up character. But SH2 had a deep personal storyline and the whole atmosphere was so hopeless and sad. Even then you wanted to keep playing. And James was one of the best, most human protagonist ever in a video game. I could keep ranting about the game for hours. I just love it so much! One thing that really bothers me about SH5 is that they're going overboard with the monster designs. They're gruesome and disturbing but in a Clive Barker sort of a way. Compare them to the monsters in the previous games and you'll understand what I mean. The monsters in the previous games, although disturbing were quite pitiful in nature. You could almost feel sorry for them and their existence if they weren't carving you up with surgical tools that is...

Tyler
^^ Yes, and that's what's bothering most fans of the series, including me. Anyway, Akira Yamaoka is still on board... thankfully!
Liquid ocelot
Yeah I completely agree, pyramid head,is over hyped.....I read so much about the guy being one of the best villians ever..but when I got to him,it was kind of like a let down...I found the other monsters more disturbing.. I'm happy akira is doing the music...I listen to the soundtracks everyday..love them! Looks like the team is over enthusiastic....and seems like it's going to have more emphasis on action.... which is okay...but silent hill is more about seeing and feeling than playing.... hee hee..Indians complaining about outsourcing to america
Tyler
^^ Ironic huh? Yeah, but it's true there seems to be an over emphasis on action and gore / shock element. Even the creature designs reflect that. Silent Hill is all about that foreboding feeling which is kind of difficult to explain. Apart from SH4, the games never threw a lot of enemies at you unnecessarily. I remember one sequence in SH2 where you had to go down this long dark greenish corridor on the way to Toluca prison... that was so nerve wracking! Harsahil
anyways i can never forget Silent Hill on PS1.. that was one hell of a scary game. though the graphics were not as great as Resident Evil 2 but this game was different and that's what makes it special.. the puzzles in the game were so good. i had been struck on that piano puzzle for a long time in the school. i still remember the day when i bought Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid together. that was the greatest day in my gaming history.. i had no idea abt both these games because i didn't use internet that much then and they turned out to be so gr8... abt SH2, i downloaded this game from torrents a few months ago cos it's no longer available but didn't get time to play it yet.. looks like i'll have to play it as Tyler has said so much good things abt it. according to me SH3 was the best in the series series. it had those amazing visuals and creepy storyline. and its relation to the original Silent Hill was binding. SH4 was crap.. why do u include hot chicks in a game if they r going to die anyway? hmm SH5 is going to be gr8 looking at its previews and videos i think so. and just like Tyler said that its the first installment on next gen consoles, so its quite obvious that Silent Hill fans will go for this game
