Ok,moving straight to the matter here are the steps:-

  1. http://192.168.1.1/
    this is the modem url

  2. admin/admin - userid/pass

  3. go to Interface Setup-->wireless select authentication type WEP 64bit

    Or

Just select wireless if you dont have interface setup

  4. then select key 1 and enter your password

Note:-Either you may be required to enter a 10digit alphanumeric password preceded by 0x
    eg:- 0xpassword11

    Or

You will be asked to simply enter a Five digit alphanumeric password
    eg:- panel

  5. Press Save

  6. The next time you login wirelessly you will have to reconfigure it and enter the password you entered above.

EDIT :-

--> It is advised that you also change the default admin password

Any queries or corrections please post below....

Dude!

I can crack WEP64 pretty easily. Select WPA2 Personal or WPA2 Enterprise. Also its not advised to enable Mac Filtering because then your router is basically broadcasting your MAC ID in the air and it becomes easier to Mac spoof

was gonna post the same thing.... :(

Apparently these guys, use in-secure WiFi to send emails etc as threats and all. So by protecting your WiFi, you are helping in a good way.

P.S - OT : John ~ I totally agree with your quote regarding brick walls, I am very inspired after watching Randy Pausch's last lecture :(

AFAIK no matter how hard u try u r IP address is not secured be it wired or wirless connection..........u see the GI admins come to know abt our IP address each time we log in..........and in present scenario GI admins are bigger terrorist then osama bin laden as confirmed by shivraj patil( those who disagree refer to GI MEET 4).

SO there is no point in all the safety measures, GI admins are gonna Pawn u anyways :)
