Yeah go for it. I have some minor issues with the game but overall its well worth it. It has the best (real time) melee combat I have ever played in any game.

Keep in mind its as different from Skyrim as can be though.

Good. So at least it can't touch Skyrim's length, but will compensate for it, in terms of frustration. :P

Well, I've played about 27 hours and have barely covered 5-6 stages :P

Finally mustered up the courage and started this game last week. This time I picked the Royalty class and the souls arrow is a virtual blessing. I managed to complete 1-1, 1-2 and 2-1.

I'm currently focusing on increasing my stats and hence most of my souls are spent on it. I would require some help on the following though:

1.) What is the difference between a Catalyst and a Miracle? How does a Miracle work?

2.) Can someone provide a dummified explanation of World and Character tendency? Can I control/influence it at my own will?

3.) What weapon upgrades do you reckon very early in the game?

4.) Can I equip more than one ring?

PS: This game is freakin' awesome. The lack of background music and just having ambient sounds is horrifying at times. :fear:

Royalty class is almost like a cheat code early on. :P

You can equip two rings.

Weapon upgrades are dependent on what character build you are playing as. For the royalty class I would say do 4-1 next and pick up the crescent Falchion. It does really good damage and its an excellent weapon for the first half of the game. Plus it scales with your Magic stats so you do higher damage if you sink more points into magic.

Catalyst is used to cast magics. Talisman is used to cast miracles. Think of it as equipment you need to cast spells. Magics and Miracles are two different schools of spells.

As far as Tendencies go, check the wiki. Its a little complicated and you needn't bother with it in your first playthrough IMO. Save it for NG+ etc.

It's a gift borne by that class. ;)

Which class did you select?

Nice. I wanted to have cling ring alongside the fragrant ring.

Will do. For now, I'm closing in on 2-2 and got my Winged Spear upgraded to level 5 and Heater shield is at level 4. The Bearbugs (large ones) seems to be unaffected by the traditional weapons, while susceptible to magic attacks. What's the fastest way to take them out?

Gotcha! Do Talisman and Catalyst occupy the same slot or do they have independent slots? I haven't learned any miracles, yet. Was about the purchase 'Heal' miracle, but then shied away and invested the souls into building my character stats.

I don't think I would be NG+ 'ing it. I would be lucky enough to complete the game. :P

You'll just use thief ring and the one that raises your hp while you're in soul form throughout the game, all the other rings are meh :P

Don't upgrade your weapons now, you'll fall short of minerals/whatever later on, especially when you can upgrade a weapon into various forms. Don't upgrade past +2/3

Use your magic on them, or go to 4-1 and get the crescent falchion

Yep. I have the thief ring. The current one I have equipped is the fragrant ring, since it regenerates my MP. This is direly needed to cast my soul arrow and I don't run out of MP. I'm currently in my body form, but once I hit the souls form, the cling ring is the first thing I'll equip.

Really? Oh dam. I'll probably need to explore the other levels in that case. I'm progressing extremely slow on this, probably because the fear of certain death always creeps around in this game. :D

Even Aftrunner recommended the same. I'll certainly get it, once I hit that level. BTW is it obtained for an NPC or a dead body?

I mean I saved minerals, especially if you want to upgrade a weapon to it's maximum level

The falchion is barely 100 meters from the starting point of the level, there's a big gate thingy at the start, as soon as you pass it, it's on the left side on a small cliff, you need to go around to get it.

Ideally you should only put on the Cling ring (it gives you more HP when in soul form) when you are in soul form. Otherwise Fragrant ring and something else that suits your playstyle.

There is really good reason to get the Crescent Falchion, like I said it will scale with your magic stat. Plus it also regenerates Mana when its equipped. So it stacks with your Fragrant ring to boost your MP regeneration. Invaluable weapon for the first half of the game.

You can equip a Talisman and a Catalyst both but ideally you would be better off concentrating on one.

Just FYI, since you are doing 2-2, that levels boss is the hardest in the game. Tougher than the final boss. If you cant beat him dont be discouraged. You can come back later. Or you can cheese him (there are many different ways to beat him cheaply without fighting fair). Also keep an eye out for the Dragon Sword, you find it late in 2-2 and its a VERY good weapon.

In my first playthrough (played as a Knight BTW) I used Crescent Falchion for the first 1/3 of the game. Then used the Dragon Sword for the rest of the game.

Lastly if you are playing while connected to the net, dont be hesitant to summon people. They leave blue signs. Its basically co op. An experienced played will not only make your level run easier but can also show you the good loot.

Sound advice, but atleast in my case, I was in soul form for more than 90% of the game, so cling ring was a necessity, partly because of the tendency change when you die :|

The only time that I used an item to revert to body form was when I had to summon bulo, otherwise soul form it was.

Also, master a bow and it'll make your game a significant deal easier.

Arrrgghhh! :ranting:

Just lost 22k souls and my body form in the boss battle of 2-2. I was so close to defeating the bloody Flamelurker (who people claim to be the hardest boss in the game), when he suddenly got all aggressive and started charging like a maniac. I could even focus on killing him, as getting out of harms way became my major concern. At last, I got cornered and eventually, screwed. I knew my bloodstain would be near the boss and there was no way I could retrieve it, without defeating him. I tried to speed run through the level to directly reach him. I started sprinting and before I knew where I was going, I fell into a deep ditch and voila, all my hard earned souls went down along with it. With nothing to loose, I re-tried again, but it appears his flaming attacks are vicious and in my soul form (with cling ring equipped), it won't be an easy battle.

Moral of the stage: a.) Don't rush.

Should I approach him now or should I get a better equipment from other levels and then re-try?
