HOglegtrausavo
They are a way for the fans to get some collectables thru which they could remember the game and generally the stuff is pretty cool.
nithin
Vaguely remember studying in my marketing class that tangibility is a big selling point. even though its just a disc - ppl would like to buy it in fancy cases/ boxes. collectors/ ltd edition is an extension of that. This will help company make more money and also indirectly uplifts the value of the he Brand. ppl who are not attracted for the dazzling covers/offers they can any how buy Standard ones. Now you decide which one you want to buy.

lastAvenger
I am not sure regarding Limited Editions. I mean essentially its about the disc. The only LE i have ever bought is of Halo 3. After a while i felt that it was a wasteful investment because i hardly ever checked out the contents. Once I was done with the book and used the poster, that LE was useless. I am giving a very hard though about GoW2 SE too because at the end its just the game which matters. These days almost all games are coming out with SE, its a good way of using psychology to sell your product. When one actually buys the product, i think he/she feels more closer to the game. Its not abour rarity i think. Its about finding yourself closer to the particular character or story in some way.
