The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will consult the central government and all stakeholders before finalising a timeline for the resumption of IPL 2025. According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the board will spend the next 48 hours gathering inputs before holding a meeting to chart the league's road map.

Is it because he was expecting to be made the captain for one more WTC?

That said, a great career comes to end, after the last two series debacle, he was clearly on the decline and this is a better way to go. England series would have been very tough for him and woukd have further dented his legacy.

I hope this gives enough fuel and drive to both Kohli and Sharma to try for WC 2027.

What's going on bc. Virat, the pinnacle of fitness in indian team for so many years taking retirement at 36. While some kaddu people with no fitness easily played till 38.

Is he alright, fitness wise? That day he was checking his heart beat and that fatigue thing.

I was thinking of getting active again, start some weight lifting. Does it even makes any diff ? I have some real life example also of same kind.

Fitness doesn't equal form. Kohli himself is prime example of this.

Fitness is not the only thing to be considered for selection. Ultimately you need to go and score runs or take wickets in a match, not lift weights or do push-ups.

Good call, apparently he himself was clear that he wanted captaincy.

Check this report

If this was indeed the reason good call by BCCI.

I think there are lot of factors connected to retirement decisions that we common people arent fully aware of. The way both Rohit and Virat have remained silent about their retirement, and especially the way Rohit behaves- 'Main kahin nahi jaane wala hoon'-makes you wonder.

I believe announcing retirement could affect influencers like them financially. Im just speculating, but there might be pressure from sponsors and brands to delay any public announcement, even if they are planning to retire. Retirement could impact their current and future deals, many of which are signed on yearly or 3–5-year contracts. Once a player retires, businesses might not see them as valuable as before, which could be a concern for brands. Their face is a brand in itself, and retirement simply push them out of the limelight.

So, not disclosing it has a lot of advantages-but as things unfolded, it ended up damaging their image even more i think.
