Halo 3: ODST

ODST is 'meh' apparently.

"You just look at it and think 'so what?'. Sure, the multiplayer is fun (it's Halo after all) but it's all built on an old engine (which looks pretty much untouched) and looks nowhere near as good as games such as Gears of War 2 or Killzone 2. It smacks of no effort and is a teensy bit cynical. [Microsoft] needed a big franchise title for this Christmas and presumably there wasn't enough time to build something new, so they gave us new missions on old, ageing technology that didn't really look that great first time round."

Tired of living? Fancy a violent death? :)

Jokes apart, it looks *exactly* like Halo 3. Why not just call it an expansion and price it accordingly!

well for me playing another campaign mode on 4plyr co-op mode with friends & new mp maps is enough for me to buy ODST for just Rs.2k.

Firefight mode & Recon armour unlocking after completing the vidmaster's challenges are just icing on the cake.. :)

It is an expansion. A stand alone expansion i.e.

Plus like the author says, they haven't improved the game visually or added in a lot of new stuff to the MP. I know it's ZOMGHALO!!111 for the guys who love Halo but for the rest of us regular folk it's just another expansion.

Well everyday there are 200k ppl playing halo mp & almost 350 to 400 k on weekends so i think this game should hit atleast a million copies which in my opinion is not bad at all for M$...

Keep the expansion coming M$..

I am surprised that there are no visual improvements - they've had quite some time to develop the engine. So is it only the HUD and the game mechanic which has changed?

TBH They have been working on it for a year with a pretty small team. The game only happened because the Peter Jackson Halo project (not the movie) died. And it is the same engine. So there isn't a lot they could have done except for minor tweaks.

Personally I will take the Halo 3 engine with its insanely large maps, ridiculous amounts of enemies on screen, good AI routines and vehicles sections over something that can render 20 sq feet of playground are in uber ultra hi def. I hope Bungie keep that in mind for Reach with the new engine. Large maps with no loading in between > hi res textures.

Anyway saw some Firefight videos of Lost Patrol map. Its freaking huge. 4p co op is gonna be a blast on that one.

11 days. :majesty: Games4u better not f**k this up.

I always thought Halo 3 was a very good looking game (and it still holds up well). The only places where it looked mediocre was the indoor areas. Also, unlike most shooters it actually knows there are other colors besides brown and gray.

Not to mention all those crazy colours you could choose for Spartan costumes in multiplayer...

i found the 2nd last level (with the organic walls and all) pretty well designed.

and like afty says - Halo can use 8-bit sprites for all I care as long as they retain the insane adrenaline pumping action. day 1 firefight co-op?
