Gran Turismo 5 Spec II

For anyone who's played this version of GT5, do you see any visible improvement over GT5 HD?

Because when i played GT5 HD, the cars edges and the environment were full of jaggies.

GT5P demo has improved a lot since GTHD. The lighting is much better, there's added bloom effect and environment jaggies are gone. You can still see minor jagged edges on car but only when it is in garage and camera is slowly panning around. No jaggies while racing or watching replay, may be because of added blur effect. I heard the new GT5P game has again improved the visuals over demo, can't wait to play it.

Big interview with Kazunori Yamauchi about Gran Turismo 5 here:

http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_ar...w476568836d01b

The bad thing it's that is in spanish.

Interesting tibdits:

-Reason for Prologue is to test fans reaction. And work to perfection the online.

-GT5 is scheduled for christmas 2008. Yamauchi san will delay it until everything is "perfect".

-All vehicles are redesigned from scratch. Car interiors are faithful

-1 guy spends 6 months per car. 1 year per circuit. Currently 30 people working only in circuits.

-Driving a Ferrari in Suzuka in GT you will see the same thing as in reality. He wants to transmit GT fans this sensation.

-He's most satisfied now with the new design of the interface, adapted to the online era.

-To the question "Is Gran Turismo 5 the best driving simulator and why?" he responds "For us, yes. To better illustrate it I'd say that Gran Turismo has its own soul. And that soul it's been reflected on its realism. Everything in it is real, the sound, the landscape, the cars..."

-They are testing car damage, but they have to reach a compromise. He put as example after the curve in Daytona, touching with the back of the car against the laterals can literally destroy the car, because it reaches a force of 150G! Yamauchi doesn't want to destroy cars like that, but he understands that fans want car damage, because it's part of reality. Some car makers don't mind car damage, others forbid it, so there will be cars with damage and cars without damage.

-Sony gives him total freedom, only restriction is launch date, but understand that he is perfectionist and won't go on sale until he is satisfied.

-He wants to make a RPG since a long time ago.

-Some Gamecube 1.5 talking about the Wii and Xbox360 not being a fullHD console since it doesn't have much games at 1080p 60fps. He would be frustrated working for Wii knowing there are more powerful machines like the PS3

-Currently working on Gran Turismo Portable (!). Will come after GT5 and will be a complementary, satelite game.

-After finishing GT5 they are going to keep working in the online for almost a year. No holidays. He hasn't got holidays in 15 years of Gran Turismo.

-He doesn't spend much nights in the office recently. But he remembers one year when he only went home 4 days.

-He started the first Gran Turismo with only himself and a part time worker. Had a team of 15 people at the end. There are 120 people working in Polyphony right now.

-At the question of Microsoft offering him unrivaled conditions to make Gran Turismo for them he responded that the most he wants is freedom, and Sony gives him plenty. If someone gives him -more- freedom he wouldn't mind to change to Microsoft, Apple, whoever. He is after more quality and more freedom.

-Something about Spain, spanish paella, how he cut his finger cooking. GT does well in other european countries, Spain too. But it could be better ()

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Review by firing squad

FiringSquad says:

When we reviewed Gran Turismo 3 we found it to be one of the freshest experiences in a long time and it earned a 96% Final Verdict. Gran Turismo 4 was measurably better than GT3 in every way, but the bar had been raised. GT4 earned an 82% final verdict, but this was based on a 10% penalty for Sony going out of their way to disable support for the Logitech MOMO Force, accepted as the best steering wheel on the market at the time. Even then, it would have only earned a 92% final verdict. In 2007, Sony has shown greater humility and GT5: Prologue actually supports the Logitech G25… In fact, rudimentary support for the clutch feature is implemented!

So what’s GT5: Prologue’s final verdict? 95%. Even though GT5:P is essentially a technology demonstration for the PS3’s 1080p gaming capabilities, the Cell’s physics calculations, and the new upgraded physics engine, the combination of these features generates a completely new experience. Because the realism of the game has been bumped a notch, the excitement and thrill of racing has come back. Like games such as DDR before Gran Turismo, and the current world of Guitar Hero and Rock Band, Gran Turismo 5 is a game that requires a dedicated controller to fully enjoy the experience.

I’ve saved the best feature of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for the end of the article: PS3 games are region free. You can buy the import edition of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and play it on a regular US PlayStation 3 with no modifications.

IT'S CHRISTMAS IN GRAN TURISMO

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/its_christmas_...ws_522_tsa.aspx

Looks like Polyphony are rewarding the early adopters with a festive treat as from tomorrow: the halls will indeed be decked with holly (and the distinctive smell of petrol) as the environments get a Christmas overhaul just in time for the online portion arriving on the 25th.

Splendid stuff, reminds us of Phantasy Star Online, only without the player killing. And with more cars.

Google translation

Just checked, so far nothing in GT TV section.

1up Yours: "Gran Turismo Is Not 1080p"

http://n4g.com/ps3/News-94800.aspx

During the latest 1up Yours podcast (around 22 mins 30 sec), David "Big Fun" Ellis from Game Videos revealed to the startled cast that Sonys seminal racing simulator, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, does not run at a native 1080p resolution.

The cast also point out screen tearing, distracting shadow pop-in and un-impressive car AI. This news will no doubt leave a bad taste in many PlayStation fans mouths as they seem to have been let down yet again by the under-acheiving PS3.

This Is not so cool..!!! :cry5:

Don't take them seriously, they are like the opposite of SDF.

Whilst comparing the online features of GT5P and Forza 2, the crew agreed that Forza 2 wins hands down and that GT5P pales in comparison.

Forza 2 beat GT5P, a demo of a game :D . GT5P doesn't even have online yet you idiots.

Btw, Prologue does have these problem, there's very minor screen tearing, shadow pop in in replays and framerate drops when all 16 cars are buckled up onscreen, especially at a tight chicane like on Fuji track. But none of it happens while actually driving, only when watching replays.
