playstation
If it has been done on the PS3, then it's not at PS4 level (which will be much higher). /fermi paradox 101 Maybe they mean looks like a first gen PS4 game. I think he said it before that the work data done on premium cars will be used for ps4 version of gt game and thats what he means here too..... praveer
Okay GT5 looks good but its really not THAT good either, it cheaps out on a lot of areas. Shift on PC (with mods) is overall better & superior looking game. (well...inferior in car models though)

(well...inferior in car models though) to each his own, but the only thing that matters most to me is cars, cars and cars in a racing game. And there's no compromise in cars in GT5. And in what areas is shift better, maybe any screenies ?

praveer
And in what areas is shift better, maybe any screenies ? For starters Shift uses FP16 HDR, high quality (though disorienting) motion Blur, high quality depth of field, has extremely high resolution reflection & shadow maps, does 100% 3D environment and does everything in real time that too in dynamic nature for eg. tree shadows & all actually move; GT5 pre-bakes a lot of stuff in this area...understandable considering they are aiming for 60FPS that too with a resolution of 1280*1080 & with 16 cars. But the talk here is of tech & shift excels in this area. (It falls back in models only because it never had the budget nor the time to build each car down to minute details, polygon wise its exactly the same) P.S.[With a few config modifications you can make the tyres & engines for the cars in shift to blow up...due to correct mechanical damage (which means calculations) & it doesn't just ends here you can go even further like enable the cars to have real aerodynamics] Yes I know most of my words a gibberish but you asked for it. Also I am not trying to be an a*s here & show some PC elitism, all I am saying is Shift (PC) is simply superior in tech & hence all these claims of GT5 being close to a PS4 in looks are simply hyperbole bullocks. I think he just wants to say the work done on premium cars are so detailed that it looks like PS4 game and lets not take the credit from polygon just coz they had enough time and budget to put so much detail into each car .... playstation
Gran Turismo 5 head-tracking 'underwhelming'It's not easy finding a chink in the armour of Gran Turismo 5. The game is looking incredible - and early reports of its 3D capabilities do nothing to dispute its claim to be The Greatest Racing Game Ever. But there is one area that Polyphony Digital will have to 'smooth out before release', according to the Official PlayStation Magazine - and that's head-tracking. The mag got a very special hands on with Yamauchi-san's masterpiece and, as you'd expect, it reports that the game is mindblowing. According to the mag's triumphant new five-page preview, the title 'accurately models mechanic and cosmetic damage to an absurd degree' and is 'looking beautiful'. Indeed, there was only one bone of contention: 'Gran Turismo 3D debuted impeccably but the game's face tracking fared less well,' it reports. 'Face-tracking using the PS Eye works on the 200 cars with cockpits and lets you look around by tilting your face away fro the screen, but the early demo we played left us underwhelmed. 'Head-tracking has been working well on PC for years using IR camera and reference makers but PS EYe is a simpler camera and Gran Turismo applies a digital interpretation to an analogue movement. 'A slight glance to the left or right is translated by the game after a considerable delay as a full 90-degree crane of your neck. Hopefully Polyphony can smooth things out before release.' Yamauchi's team certainly has the time to straighten it out - GT5 is due for release in November. GT5 will feature over 1,000 cars - with 200 never before seen in a GT game. Check out the August issue of OPM for its full Gt5 preview. Buy your copy of OPM and have it delivered to your door. sourceee
