Mercedes Gran Turismo 5 Contest Will Put 100 Top Virtual Drivers in the SLS Supercar

Has anyone ever told you that playing video games would get you nowhere? What do they known. Gran Turismo 5 is by far the most heavily anticipated driving simulator in the history of video games. So anticipated in fact that many passionate enthusiasts have lost interest with the constant changing of release dates. But nonetheless, the release is on the horizon and after $60 million or so dollars spent on R&D, we all hope it lives up to its expectations.

Mercedes-Benz UK clearly believes in Gran Turismo 5’s potential and are using it as part of their SLS AMG Rare Experiences campaign. They are setting up a Gran Turismo 5 Racing Experience at Mercedes-Benz World in the UK, where 100 lucky virtual racers will win their way into real life seat time in a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG. How are those 100 lucky virtual racers chosen? By their skill in Gran Turismo 5. The top 100 fastest lap times will get a spot behind the real steering wheel to drive, drift and slide around the Mercedes-Benz World track in the SLS AMG. Professional training with a driver is included.

If only Mercedes would bring this contest to North America.

Make sure to check out the promo video after the break

Red Bull F1 Car in GT5?

In case you haven’t realised, Gran Turismo 5 still isn’t with us, and has a few months to go before it is. But could GT 5 be getting a rather special car?

A rumour has surfaced stating that GT5 will play host to the Red Bull F1 car, after a post on Red Bulls blog:

…well, let’s just say Adrian Newey is involved as is Sebastian Vettel and they both met the game’s designer Kazunori Yamauchi in Milton Keynes earlier this year.

The Red Bull owned Hangar-7 restaurant and The Factory will be recreated in game well. At this point, this is just a rumour and the post itself contains no specifics on exactly what this ‘Special Car’ is. For all we know, it could be that Mini with the giant can of Red Bull strapped to the back that I see in various places around the country.

Why Gran Turismo 5 is NOT a revelation

We've said before that Gran Turismo 5 must be the best racing game ever. With so many years of development and such a brilliant base of four trailblazing games to build from, it can only be amazing. However, having played it at Sony's London offices, I can confirm Gran Turismo 5 is not a revelation. It is an incredibly stubborn series, steadfastly refusing to follow GRID and DiRT 2's lead and sticking instead to its own idiosyncratic ideals

So they want it to follow GRID and DiRT2....

They did the same thing with KZ2, not a surprised atall  Lameradar.

Anyways got a DFGT as well last week and tried Dirt 2 with it, I have to say WOW what an amazing experience, loving Dirt 2 right now. Also DFGT is a terrific wheel and cheap as well, If you are getting GT5 you need to have this wheel, Its full of win.

New GT5 Scans Confirm Karting

Some new scans have emerged of Sony’s racing simulation behemoth that is Gran Turismo 5. We brought word of stunt arenas, showed off how head tracking could work and relished in the PS Home-style wonderment on offer with My Lounge. Now, dear readers, we are very proud to bring you some sort of grainy and a little bit out of focus camera shots of a French gaming mag’s feature on GT5. I know, I know; we spoil you.

In all seriousness, some very interesting looking GT5 screens have been posted to the French gaming website and blog Gamerama. The shots are of the French summer edition of the Official PlayStation Magazine’s fairly sizable feature on the racing behemoth that has forever been on the horizon.

The shots themselves, aside from once again reminding us just how gorgeous this game is looking, touch on a number of things such as the 3D functionality, kart racing and incredibly detailed car damage modeling. What is most apparent, however, is that SCE are certainly not doing things by half with GT5. There are more than 70 courses and we counted no less than fourteen different racing classes, which, combined with in excess of 1000 cars, allows for a staggering amount of race time.

We’ve barely scratched the surface of what’s on display here and could go on with what we can take from these pictures, but for now we’ll let you pore over them for yourselves. Just follow this link and click ‘voir’ to bypass the anti-spoiler measures.

LOL they did their credibility a lot of harm by saying GT should be like Grid and Dirt. There's nothing wrong with those games, but you've got to be seriously retarded to suggest such a thing.

peace

How can you be so lenient on them? I'm at the brim of my temper. They call themselves professionals. They're just rat scum I'd say. These guys obviously don't know anything about simulation racing games and dare call the effort stubbon. Morons.......oh snap.....now the reputation of 'morons' is ruined! <_<

Even poo like Forza 2 had damage like that:

It'd be more interesting to see the damage in premium cars with stuff flying across.
