GT5 Prologue Demo Hitting PSN Next Week

http://www.gtchannel.com/content.php?cid=8590

Big news from the world of Gran Turismo. With the Tokyo Motor Show only a week away, Sony is already prepping for a huge unveiling on October 24th. There are rumors around what Sony could possibly be revealing, but for now the more important news at hand is the fact that GT5 Prologue will be a downloadable demo as of October 20th. That's right, a free download. That explains why Gran Turismo HD was removed from the PlayStation store on September 30th.

Chances are that this is the same demo shown at Tokyo Game Show (TGS). Most of you who didn't attent TGS will be able to see calendar and other functions in the new Prologue. If that's the case and the Prologue demo is the same one shown at the video game show last month, this upcoming download should feature Alfa Romeos, Nissans, Ferarris and other vehicles, a total of 16, as well as three tracks, Suzuka, Fuji and Daytona.

The October 24th downloadable demo of Prologue should hold fans over long enough until the December 13th release of Gran Turismo Prologue. Pricing will be set at 4,980 Yen for the Blu-Ray disc and 4,500 as a straight download. If it's only four bucks, give us the disc; we don't want a download that costs as much as a full game.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo Cars, Track and Online Service Details

More breaking information from the world of PlayStation 3 and Polyphony Digital. It appears that Sony is trying to steal the show. And with this week's big GT-R blunder it might just be possible. Sony is doing a better job of keeping its info under wraps, but we have learned that Sony has bigger plans at the 40th Tokyo Motor Show Gran Turismo Prologue than just a regular unveiling. The big news is that Sony will have a big program and preview for Gran Turismo TV at Tokyo Motor Show. But you don't have to wait until then for some of what we can expect to see.

As we mentioned earlier, Sony will offer a free demo available as a download through the PlayStation Store. Obviously the download will only be available on the PS3. But here's the kicker the free Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Demo will be available only from October 20th until November 11th. Approximately three weeks, just in time for the release of the full version of Prologue. So you best note waste anytime if you're a Gran Turismo completist.

We also learned exactly what vehicles will be playable in the demo. We incorrectly reported earlier that the demo will feature 16 cars and three tracks. This report was based on information we received from the Tokyo Game Show build. For the Tokyo Motor Show and the download demo, a total of seven vehicles will be featured in the Prologue demo. These vehicles are the 2008 Lexus IS-F, 2009 Nissan GT-R, 2008 Mazda Atenza, 2008 Subaru Impreza WRX STi, 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR, 2008 Daihatsu OFC-1 and 2009 BMW 135i coupe. It's a pretty awesome selection especially when you remember that this is just a free download, but we're not really certain why the hell the Daihatsu is in the mix or how it got in there. Maybe it snuck in when no one was looking.

Seven cars, but only one course will be playable, Suzuka Circuit. See the shot above for the Suzuka map. A total of sixteen cars will be on-track simultaneously, but there's no online in the demo.

Back to the Motorshow, Sony has some plans for Gran Turismo between the 23rd and 25th at which the company will unveil a new car, we're not really sure that it is. Sony will also be showing how the free news service works for motorsports and other automotive related goodies. Online News Service, Gran Turismo TV and News won't be available offline.

More to come next week. We're getting on a plane tomorrow morning to head to the land of Gran Turismo. We can't wait.

demo impressions

the demo is complety in japanese so my points are based on the default setting(not the newly introduced pro physics mode, need to check a translation guide soon)

i know this is a demo of a demo, but i still will be nitpicking a lot,but thats me

demo is around 750mb

the car models are stunning(best in the business by a huge country mile)

runs at 60fps,has the odd drop, but most of you wont even notice it

cockpit view is OMFG amazing, its a completely different game with that new view

cockpit view has some shimmering issues with shadows(self shadowing is a problem on nearly all games btw)

jaggies strike back, not as bad as forza 2 but they are there are are visible(hopefully will be cleaned up before next years release)

the track suzuka is sh*t,its more fcking bland than the indian cricket jersey

not all cars have cockpit views(nissan's 'masked' GTR doesnt have one yet)

no damage yet

crowds looks like sh*t,they have the same canned animation looping again and again

when you hit the tyre barriers they dont move, hit the fences nothing happens.

in the cockpit view the cars behind you in the sideview mirror look straight from ps2 era.

the replays are unbelievably photo realistic, smaller details can be seen clearly, grass bending, flowing, heat blurs etc

HDR is overdone, the game looks very dark at places(they need to fix it)

sound is a mixed bag, engine sounds great, everything else not so much

Ai is improved, they'll overtake you, block you, have their own duels etc

Ai still travels in groups, but they are not all together this time, its more like 2-4 groups

rubber band AI is not completely gone, but its largely improved

bumper car physics are sadly present, again not as bad as the last version and the improved ai does a gr8 job here (need to chk pro physics soon)

no time penalty for hitting other cars or running out

no ferrari's

suzuka is bland

no online play in demo

demo is in f**kin japanese

GT5 Prologue not true 1080p - upscaled

GT5 Prologue works in 1280x1080 and uses PS3 upscaling trick - by repeating some pixels in anamorphic picture to 1920x1080. So 50% upscale.(It's actually less than GT HD's 1440x1080)

1280x1080 and 2xAA

1280x720 and 4xAA

Confirmed by the same guy from Halo 3 resolution discovery (Quaz51).

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread...=43330&page=24

"GT5 prologue demo is 1280x1080p (yamauchi know than in car game the vertical resolution is the most important for the visibility) but with MSAA 2x now ! it's a very good Compromise

they also very improved the display of grills and electric wires and aliasing problems (compare electric wires in GT-HD and in this demo, it's big big gap), the texture filtering is very clean and the HDR ligthing is awesome! All this in 60fps with 16 photorealistics cars, it's impressive the show room and the pit/garage is full 1920x1080 no AA"
