Gran Turismo 5 Spec II

How well does these simulate real driving techniques? For eg. can you do a corner with a heel-toe downshift using a G25?

The heel-toe shift has nothing to do with the wheel, but more to do with the game. Any wheel with a clutch pedal will let you do a heel-toe shift

Sorry, the question was not correctly worded. I just want to know if such things are possible in GT5 (or prolouge) with a G25 because that is right now the only game Im considering getting that for.

We've seen racing games approach photo realism in the past. Certain shots during replay modes in Gran Turismo Prologue, for instance, can temporarily trick the eye into thinking you are seeing the real thing. The images below also illustrate exactly how close Gran Turismo Prologue has come to matching the real thing. Can you pick the two apart?

Now that Gran Turismo 5 is right around the corner, it seems as if they are about to redefine what a good looking racing game is supposed to look like. Not only are we getting crisp, amazingly detailed graphics, but some brand new technologies are now making their way into what could amount to the most immersive, realistic visual experience ever delivered in a video game.

First of all, there is the full head tracking offered by PlayStation Eye. Move your head forward while in cockpit view, you see more of the car around you, as if you are looking through a window rather than a flat screen (see the video below for an example). Turn it to the side, look out your side window. This alone brings the level of visual realism miles beyond what has ever been done in a videogame before. We've seen tech demos, like the one below (bear in mind that PSEye doesn't require the glasses), but this is the first time an actual console videogame has been confirmed to be using such technology.

But, it gets better. Not only do you get a 3D-like view with the head tracking, but if you have a 3D capable TV, you also get to see the image in full 3D. Gran Turismo 5 was recently shown running in 3D at the IFA Trade Show. With a sense of depth being so important to driving, this is sure to add a lot of overall immersion to Gran Turismo 5's visual experience.

So there you have it. A nearly photo realistic game featuring full head tracking, and also displaying in 3D... How much better can it get? Not all that much, until we figure out how to make (and until you can afford) a holodeck.

Head tracking is a pretty cool concept. But wont turning your head to the side to look out of a side window mean you're gonna be looking away from the screen?

Yup, GT5 Prologue supports it as do most of the top racing sims on PC that are G25-compatible.

Guys how much does a g25 wheel cost and where can i get it? .i put up here in delhi ..Does it work with ps3 i mean with upcoming game gt5 especially.plz let me know. And how do i connect it to ps3 .does it have like a usb which i connect to ps3 and the ps3 recognises the hardware and straight away i can play the game.or do i have to install the software that comes with the wheel on ps3 .anybody who owns plz give me some details

G25 officially costs 25k. You can get it as low as 15k if you know where to look. It works with PS3. Works with Prologue and will work with GT5. It connects to the PS3 via USB.

Even the G27 isnt wireless, which is just stupid. G27 seems like a real waste.

I don't think there's any wheel that's complete wireless. Even the Xbox 360 "Wireless" Racing Wheel isn't. You still need to connect to a power source and the pedals are also connected to the wheel with a wire.

Slightly Mad: GT5's damage isn't "quite so realistic"

Slightly Mad Studios' Andy Tudor has suggested that Gran Turismo 5's damage modelling isn't "quite so realistic" as Need For Speed: Shift's.

When asked by GamerZines how extensive Shift's damage modelling was, Tudor replied:

"We do as much as the manufacturers allow us to do, which is anything up to the point of encroaching the driver's safety zone, which means we can't tear the doors off.

"Actually, when the footage of Gran Turismo 5 came out of GamesCom with the doors flying off, we were all like 'what the f**k? How are they able to do that?' But then we looked closer and saw that they had fitted a roll cage to the car, which is fine, but it's not quite so realistic. But to answer your question, yeah, hoods, bumpers and all that can come flying off in Shift."

Shift is the next title due in the Need For Speed series which focuses on simulation racing, rather than the series' typical arcade racing.

Except Tudor doesn't want it referred to as such, instead labelling Shift a 'realistic action racer'. "The term simulation has a stigma associated with it," reckons Andy, "and this feeling that you have to be a nerd to play a sim."

The millions of Gran Turismo 5 players will probably disagree with you on that one, Andy.

Gran Turismo 5 Releasing September 25th UK?

PSBeyond has just been informed from an extremely reliable source that the highly anticipated racer for PlayStation 3, Gran Turismo 5, is being released this month...that's right, September 25th in actual fact in the UK. Word comes from a Sony official direct, and the news will certainly please many fans who have waited an exceptionally long time to see Polyphony Digitals next installment on store shelves.

The date actually coincides with that of the Tokyo Games Show 2009, so expect a ground breaing announcement from Sony and Polyphony then.

With plenty of weeks left then in the run up to christmas, Sony must be prizing this title to help push their recently launched 120GB PS3 Slim, which hit retail globally on September 1st, to maximise sales. Expect a brand new bundle and new accessories to launch with this title very very soon.

:)
