It's in line with what you expect out of gaming. 

 

One thing I will say, if you don't like writing in Control, maybe you are missing out on subtle details. 

 

It's not in your face and simplified, something like in Uncharted or Call of Duty games. You need to pay a bit more attention than that.

This!  I’ve played a significant amount of AW2 to come to this conclusion for now

Remedy wrote one of the best character ever i.e. Max payne.  First two games are still memorable because of their characters and writing. I still remember max's liners and many scenarios . That much impact it had and still rules. The baseball tv show, the clown world tv in second part. Its f**ckin brilliant stuff man.

I agree after payne they usually dont tell their story straight forward but the stuff and work they put in their writing and extra stuff is amazing.

The ingame tv shows, emails, documents, so much stuff to read in there. Alan wake's pages of manuscript were worth collecting and reading. So did Control and QB's extra stuff. Even the writing boards in every game has lots of stuff which helps with the story and ppl ususally miss it.

Mediocre writing ? No way. Its actually the opposite their gameplay department needs improvement. Which i see in alan wake 2 is good so far. AW1 war arcade and action, this is survival horror. Control was fun to play too.

Yup....thus I was saying, never heard complaints being their story as mediocre. It's quite opposite actually. Lots of bread crumbs. Quite cerebral experience... When I played Control, at the beginning I was lost and I can understand why many people might think that their stories are convoluted. They are not, it's that they are not told like straight forward games, you have learn from the stuffs that are scattered in the game worlds. Through tapes, pages and many other stuffs. 

And it all makes sense once you invest that time to find and learn them.

There are memorable side bosses in Control which many gamers didnt even encounter. 

I personally think, Remedy is amazing in gameplay as well, and look at the portfolio, they don't even copy their gameplay from one game to another. All feels sooo different! 

QB being their weakest creation by popular opinion, yet that had really cool gameplay.
