Completed, It's a surrealist horror masterpiece, fantastic mature narrative storytelling.

Visually one of the most beautiful games ever made. Every inch of this game is just oozing with atmosphere.

Combat is basic but well managed, a crafting system would've been great but the inventory management system needs improvement, overall no major complaints. It suits the genre.

The NPC expressions and lipsync are hands down the best I've seen in gaming, I'd love to see more like this in the future. It manages to keep us even more engaged with the characters.

The twist in the end that left me anxious not to miss the future DLC's.

Remedy Entertainment did it again :clapping:

Im on the polar opposite on this game.

The game is a long walking simulator with few movies in between.

14 Hours In story still isnt making sense.

The combat is non existent (Alan wake 1 had better combat than these, that game came out years ago), also no idea why they went with slow realistic reload when the enemies run around like flash. Boss fights so far have been the worst i have seen in gaming , alan wake 1 musical boss fight beats the entire game.

The way to access map is so clunky.

The horror elements are over done (talking about the flashing black and white scenese here) hence takes away the fun from the actual ones .

I usually drop games when after few hours i dont feel like it. Playing this just because i really like the first one.

On the plus side game does look phenomenal , dare i say best esp in the sun set setting, the voice acting is top notch. Ahti sings really good

Im hoping story by the end makes sense.

Done with the game. 6/10 for me . wont go too deep but

1) No closure to a single character Dont open spoiler if you did not play, most of them are kept for dlc which is bad

Spoiler

1) Alan wake

2) Saga Anderson

3) Bill Guy

4) talk show guy

2) The black and white jumpscares are so overdone that it doesnt scare you after a point . The best one was tire flattening one . should have done more of that

3) Gameplay is boring and the entire game you do the exact same thing

4) Story was good but understood none of it.

Things i liked -

1) Best looking game and also the best performance on launch , had zero bugs and ran flawlessly

2) Voice acting was brilliant esp the talk show guy was <3

3) The alan wake musical chapter is something more games should do , even saga;s musical chapter was really good.

4) Puzzles were nice

Conclusion - Ahti is the GOAT!

Planning to pick this up but I have a question:

Had played Alan Wake 1 years back when it was released so have forgotten the story. Do you guys suggest I play AW 1 + DLCs before I get into Alan Wake 2?

The Alan storyline picks up after Alan Wake 1, so if you can play the first one before starting this then you'll get a proper picture.

Game also tries to explain it via manuscripts and reading material in the world but many will not prefer doing that. Also, there are plenty of YT story videos for AW1 as I did.

Depends on how much time & patience you have.

If you can then play 1 but it hasn’t aged well.

Specially in terms of gameplay & movement.

Otherwise YouTube & specially the ones that cover just the story in a movie format are your best option.

I myself am in two minds whether to play it again or not….specially when it’s in my library thx to PSplus.

At least watch a summary YouTube video. There are events in Control also that are related to AW.

Thanks guys for the input, appreciate it!

After reading the above posts I went ahead and started Alan Wake 1 Remastered (PC) for another play-through after almost 10 years! The movement in the game does feel awkward but the story immediately glued me right in. It's a good thing I picked up AW 1 because I literally have forgotten how the game and story pans out. I could have gone and watched a recap video of AW 1's story but that just wouldn't be the same as playing through the game and having the full experience.

Was playing the Subway level... the darkness and atmosphere in the level is nerve wracking!

Spoiler

1. That train compartment with all those charred bodies... god damn!

2. Jutting between case plots and all the shifting maps... this game might leave me a little insane in the end! It honestly feels too complex at times :wOOtjumpy:
