My dad's looking to replace one of our cars (an Accent) within the coming months. We were looking at the Civic and the Cedia Sports.

The Cedia Sports package seems really attractive with the Kenwood GPS+entertainment system, OZ alloys, MOMO steering wheel and all that. The Civic is as always pretty good, with more power than the Cedia Sports too. Haven't yet had time to test drive either. But before we do, thought I'd ask everyone here for opinions.

And please give me a detailed analysis of the Cedia Sports and the Civic if you own either. Yeah, I read the Civic post above mine and the scraping is definitely something I'm concerned about with the low ground clearance.

Hoping to hear your opinions soon. THanks in advance.

@achilles and praveen,

Well yea you're right, Civic looks more awesome and the Altis is just a slimmed down version of the Camry, but I find it okay and not that bad really. The look of the altis's front is arguable no doubt. But nothing I can do about it. Plus I dont really have other choices in that segment of 11-14 lacs. Yes, there is the Jetta and Octavia but the Octavia's highly dated now plus Skoda is well known for shitloads of troubles as stated in the Tbhp links above and the petrol Jetta is highly not recommended by many people.

Civic would've been awesome, but the scraping was a major bummer for me as I have to travel daily through some rough patches of roads plus the entry to my home is one big incline. Btw, did yall see the 2009 facelift to the current civic on our roads? I think its selling in the East already. It sucks bigtime and is nothing compared to the current civic running on our roads. Honda has a lads plus the entry to my home is one big incline. Btw, did yall see the 2009 facelift to the current civic on our roads? I think its selling in the East already. Atleast with Toyota, you can be assured of brilliant service and a headache free experience. That is unanimous from most Toyota owners.

i din know that scraping was really that big an issue in the civic. and truly.. a toyota never breaks down. very reliable. jetta looks even worse and the lesser said about the octavia the better. so if the scraping really does bother u that much, keep with the corolla. id get the top end diesel linea though, and fit it with a turbo charger :(

and praveen, the civic's mileage i heard was pretty good.. sorta 15ish.. rubbish..??!! wats corolla giving you..?

Yes. Cedia is a very nice choice. Only issue is dated looks.

But the engine is rugged and well built. AFAIK ordinary Cedia gives acceptable mileage for a car in its price and class.

So expect the same from sports too. And cheaper than Civic.

If you want a heavy runner i say Cedia any day. ROI is better in cedia. ROI(Return of Investment) - > Ownership, future maintenance, Spares and all.

And regarding Civic scraping. I live in Tvm. Roads are VERY bad. and huge humps. But i rode a Civic for about 60 kms once through the city, only once or twice was i bothered by it.

If money is a factor get a Cedia, else Civic. Both are just good cars. Proven by time.

lolz @ what speed did u drive?? 5kmph? if the roads r bad the lower ground clearance is definitely gonna cause problems unless u doing less than 5 :sadbye:

Civic has major GL problems. Plus I got a good deal for it. One reason why I chose the Altis. Oh and just booked the Altis. Delivery by next week :sadbye::chair:....

I dont know, but I wouldnt buy the Cedia now. Its a very dated model and you're better off with other alternatives. Skoda is renowned for its very bad after sales, so be warned in case you think of it. Jetta's diesel is a stonker from what I can understand and its reviews are glowing especially the DSG gearbox. I would've gone for it had I not been specifically looking for a petrol car

I love the way the civic looks, but the bundled accessories with the cedia sports are nice too. My problem is not money, im limited by a parking space that can atmost squeeze in a 1710mm wide car. Thats the limiting factor.

No, i've had civic for almost 3 years now. Even went for a long trip to my native place 1500 km away, there is no major ground clearance problem. The only real problem is tht some times u get a very large "thud" noise from the back wheels of the car when u drive over a minor pothole or other small obstruction in road at moderate speed. But this too only when there are 2-3 ppl in back seat.

Jetta's a bit expensive I think for what we get but me and my Dad are both pretty much against getting a diesel car. Fuel of the devil as Jeremy Clarkson would say :(

As I explained before, we're a bit limited by the parking space requirement for the next car, and the extra 20 HP that the Civic has isn't really of concern to us, we don't mind a slightly slower acceleration.

Any alternatives in this range?? I don't know, but I don't really hate the Cedia's looks, and the Sport version's spoiler and skirts and interior make over (for the 2009 version) look nice to me. But I gotta say I thought it was a smaller version of the Lancer before I looked it up, blame it on Mitsubishi's dismal publicity campaign.

Gotta take a test drive soon, but does anyone here own or have a friend who owns a Cedia or the Cedia sport?

I don't know much about the Cedia but the big factor for me is always availability of service, spare parts, and accessibility to repair shops (it has nothing to do with the way i drive). This is where Honda scores big time. The cars also take minimum servicing. Hence I would go for the Honda always. The Civic's ground clearance is not good but that's an issue with all the Honda cars. I own the new City which is at par with the Civic's ground clearance and does not give that many issues. But the service is top class. I know I will get a Honda service centre anywhere.

I think both Toyota and Honda are known for their brilliant service as I've read on the bhp forums. Toyota's a few notches higher i suppose. Either way, i'm happy i chose the altis. With 4 people almost everday in my car, I'd rather not hear the scraping of the underside of my car a lot. The Altis has the best GL in its class which IMO is imp when its a family car and roads aint that good. I know atleast reliability, spare parts and service will never be an issue with Toyota, even if it has lesser bells and whistles than European cars in the same segment. Can't wait for Wednesday

Why dont u consider the Fiesta Petrol? Its brilliant and bang for the buck. And its more or less the same size as the Cedia. Do check it out, the petrol engine is fun to drive.

The Fiesta? Though it has a wee bit less power, We did consider it and its a good car too (I've driven a relative's and it feels good), but once again the extras with the sport make it a bit more worthwhile. And it looks even more plain than the Cedia in my opinion. The minute I say Ford, mum gives me the "meh" look. Besides its significantly smaller by length (a foot) though only around 10-15mm less wide than the Cedia. I understand its much cheaper than the Cedia though.

Yeah, the price is its USP. Well if you're so keen on the Cedia, go for it :). I'm also hearing news of the Chevy Cruze hitting India soon. Though yeah it'd be safe to stay away from GM now :P

Yeah , most likely the cedia sport. The cruze (arriving september) is 1788mm wide, once again a parking space problem :( , hence out of the picture.

Gotta take a test drive before confirming. And colours - im thinking maybe red or yellow :D
