Test drove civic. Apart from ground clearance issues, though its nice, the car just reminds us too much of the city. Really, the outside is longer I agree but just look at the back, the similarity is striking. And the front though a bit different would be similar to the city again if the front grill was replaced.

Not saying it doesn't look nice, just reminds us a bit too much of their lower end car (even though its bigger). And there are plenty of civics at the place my father works, so he isn't too keen on adding another to the pack.

Wanted to add one more thing, about the Civic vs Corolla Altis thing. The Civic doesn't have a trip computer or audio controls on the steering wheel for that matter, which is sad considering its otherwise pretty good.

Btw I would like to ask people who own or drive a Corolla Altis ----> How much mileage do you get in the city? Please answer.

I'm clocking in about 11-12 now in the city. Around 14 on the highway. I usually drive on the highways since my workplace is on the highway but i did the 2 tankfull test and roughly got this mileage and I'm being stingy.

N yea, the steering wheel controls are good, though i'm going to change the head unit and replace all the stock speakers with infiniti or focals

I'm asking only about the manual civic vs manual altis mileage.

What we heard from friends who own an Altis (and a doctor at Dad's workplace) were that the Altis was giving only in the region of around 9 in city. Whereas the Civic gave higher. Thats why I'm asking here.

Are spoilers and side skirts available as accessories from Toyota if we want to add them to the Altis G or GL??

@ dabba : 8 kmpl? 7???

My god, you get 5... thats insanely low.... You do spend your entire salary on petrol??

The reason I've been asking about the Corolla Altis' mileage is cos my dad was planning to buy it until a doctor friend of his who drives one went and told him that the mileage is crap, and below 9kmpl. Now he's considering the Optra Magnum. Whats your opinion ??

lolz sold off that car long time back :P

dunno abt the mileage of the 3 but the civic n altis are very reliable cars, althou spares might be on the expensive side, rarely will u find a need for 'em

the optra is a whole lotta goodies bundled in a nicely priced package... n the diesel is supposed to give decent mileage figures... the +ives n -ives of the cedia u have nailed down pretty well....

at the end of the day it boils down to what exactly u are looking for in the car... mileage?? looks? reliability? resale value? once u prioritise these points u should be able to narrow down n pick one...

all the best :giggle:

Thank you... but damn my dad's the one with the money.... I can push him but he's gotta take the plunge.

I for one am for the Altis though he might in the end go with an Optra or the Cedia.

I suppose there'll be a decision by August end or September first week. Any idea about when the Cruze is gonna launch?? I asked at Sundaram Motors (Gm dealers here) and only the manager knew what I was talking about. He said "No official info sir, maybe October but our manufacturer hasn't told us anything".

Yup,

I know the GM there personally, so he waived 22k from the OTR price which was actually the cost of the free accessories and gave me some of the basic ones + the footwell light for free. Plus I got a discount in the RTO charges for a special number. The accessories which they give include the footmats, mudflaps, visors, some attachments on the headlights and grille (Which IMO spoils the look of the car) plus the footwell light which shows "Altis". That is the best accessorry. Looks awesome as well. I paid totally a price of 12,23 including the special no cost.

edit: getting a mileage of around 10 with mixed usage of city and highways

Cool. So koyambedu it is then....

Hmmm any chance I could get this much without knowing the GM??? :D

Upgraded to the leather seats?

Edit: The sales guy who deals with me from there is Senthil Kumar. Any chance you've talked to him? Nice guy, but utterly persistent. Can't spend two days without getting a call from him. Last time I spoke to him I asked him what about giving some accessories with the car free and he said he could do it if I went for G and GL but not for the Sport cos he had only one of those remaining.

:D

Depends on your negotiating skill. Infact, the GM himself wasnt that pushy. We kept it pending, pushed again n again lol. N they finally relented.

Its performing well. Its performance is not like the civic in terms of pickup etc. It likes to be driven at 80-100 and makes no bones about that fact. And brilliant in the city. It steers well and I coudnt believe a car of that size could drive so well in crowded T nagar :P..

Yeah I liked it too. Took a 2nd test drive on it cos I wanted to have a drive. We've been making that guy wait again and again, he's like "only one car remaining sir, it may get booked sir, why don't u book now" .... we're like 'yeah yeah whatever, we'll tell you sometime".

Then my dad had this brainwave :D - why not get the fully loaded GL and add the external spoilers?? But then does Toyota offer the rear and front bumper spoilers, boot spoiler and side skirts as accessories???
