Check the review below. Not a good city performer. Loads of Turbo lag. Expected since its the same Captiva engine. A stonker on the highway though.

Link

12.45 ex showroom translates to 15 OTR. I dunno, m not that impressed for its price. It has a lot of features like a proper parking sensor and rain sensors and all, but the lack of an automatic coupled with heavy turbo lag will be a bummer for the city. Plus the clutch seems bad from what I read there.

Oh and I wouldnt suggest the top end version. All the doors of the car auto open if if u r within 2 metres of the car. I dont know how safe that is in India. Plus the car has a push button start which doesnt shut down even if u walk out the car with the keys.

Heavy turbo lag is there. I agree. Clutch was hard on the test drive vehicle as it had been abused. But yet to decide if both these things will be an issue for us as we haven't had a test drive yet.

FYI, I've been reading reviews and opinions for the past month (every single post every single thread).... seen all this long ago.

The reviewer has explicitly stated that there may be an option to configure the PEPS properly but that he hasn't given it a thorough look. And we're not the type that switches the car, leaving it running and walk away (neither me nor dad). Locking the car can be done by the sensor on the door handle too.

You should read the successive posts on the same thread. They give a fair idea. It's between this and the Altis GL I think now.

Just waiting for a test drive.

BTW the loads of power that this car had would be awesome on a trip to college (MIT Campus, Anna Univ). That GST Road is great for speeding, except near the Pallavaram bit.

EDIT: and we don't like automatics... we avoid them like the plague... and I can safely say that when I finally get a job and earn enough, I won't ever buy an automatic, stickshift is the way to go :wOOtjumpy:

@Gaurav

Yeah m pretty sure u did surf. Lol T-bhp is quite popular anyway. Well whatever we say here will only be speculation till u drive it yourself :samui:..Those idiots will try and get u to the highway. I remember when I did a TD of the fabia, those guys were constantly ranting about how good it is on the highway. I told him city traffic, its too lazy an engine and they were like..no sir but on highway its damn good...I was like wtf what about city??, they still kept talkin abt highway. Lame!!..I hate Skoda, after all the horror stories I head about em.

Anyway, i've driven 2500 kms on my altis till now. Safe to say, its been a wonderful drive till now. Gives me a mileage of 12 combined. When I drove to Bangalore it gave me better than that. Very comfy, steering is like butter, so city driving is brilliant. Of course, being a petrol engine helps. I didnt change much on the car. Jus added leather seats and upgraded speakers. I got the pearl white colour and its too classy to modify :chair:..And Lanson guys are awesome!!

Guys, what the word on the street about the Honda Jazz??
took a test drive.... engine is very smooth and it has waaaay tooo much space in it.... interior space has been managed very well...

If you are looking for a premium hatchback, you have the 9 lakh something money and think that Honda cars are always worth their price, then get it... you'll be happy

^Infact in today's TOI ad, they showed the STS flanking the Cruze

Low end torque is an issue on this car, so city driving will be a bummer. Still, there is a petrol coming, so we can hope

And totally surprising news, the I20 sold close to 5000 units this month :(...Shocking considering its a premium hatch and that this segment never really took off in India (Fabia anyone?)...Jazz on the other hand is failing terribly.

@Snake

I would suggest the I20 instead of the Jazz. More VFM proposition

Jazz is so NOT worth its price tag. Better shell out a lil more and get the city

Went and saw the Cruze at Sundaram Motors, Chennai today. They've got 3 cars - Atlantis Blue, Misty Lake Blue, Velvet Red - in the showroom now. Looks are quite good. Nothing bad about the interiors. They haven't got the RTO's approval for using it as a test drive vehicle outside their compound yet, so we took a little drive inside. Obviously the lower end torque was the main concern and it was amply tested. Dad stalled the car when he first changed gear :threatenlumber: I didn't.

The clutch is a bit hard, needs to be totally depressed to change gear. But he felt no issue in lower end torque, easily managed (even though neither of us have driven a diesel much before). The reviews exaggerate this. The car we drove had done merely 132km overall. Will put up pictures of the cars (didn't wanna appear silly, so I just took snap of the exterior) at Sundaram in a few minutes from now. The features are awesome for the price we pay. The reverse sensor is calibrated perfectly too btw.

Right now our choice has been narrowed down to the Altis GL vs the Cruze LTZ. Today's experience tilted us toward the Cruze. Only Mum was unhappy with the back seat being a wee bit (almost unnoticeable) less accommodating for 3 people than the Altis. PLENTY OF LEGROOM THOUGH (even with front seats pushed all the way back) But the interiors here look too cool, and the PEPS thing is a non-issue, it didn't open when the key was 4-5m away. You need to be within 2m to have it open.

The back seat is comfortable, slightly more upright, but I don't see why that's a problem.... some reviews once again try to make a mountain out a mole hill.

Only thing that didn't look good was the silly old-style round mouthed tail pipe. Idiots could have changed it to make it look better, but no big deal.

Still not completely decided, will be taking a test drive on regular city roads (yes, not highways DS, the sales guy himself was insistent on us trying within the city to see whether the lower end turbo lag would be a problem for us) next week.

EDIT: Allow me to say the speakers are pretty good.... even radio sounded really awesome with the right amount of bass and no distortion. Will test it out using the output from my N79 and my iPod when they bring it here.

If we do end up getting an Altis, it'll be a GL. So won't be doing any upgrading of seats (they come with leather as such on this top end model). The Lanson guys are very nice, though.

The final decision will be made within a week of next week's TD of the cruze. Damn, I find myself wishing they'd let me drive this torquey beast on the highway to test that <10s timing for the 0-100 run.

Pics added:

Sorry about the crappy quality guys, the shed where the 2 Cruze TD vehicles (soon they will be exactly that) are parked has literally no lighting at all. Totally dark.

i'd agree..

there is absolutely no point shelling out that much on a hatchback, go for a City instead.

Here are some stats for u. Toyota have delivered only 700 Fortuners this month all over India. Total orders received till now cross 7000+ in the 1st month itself:P...Long time to wait bro, as Toyota didn't expect such a massive demand.

I just hope they scale up production of the fortuner. I hope it doesn't become another Dzire. Dzire has the longest waiting AFAIK at 6 months+

The only other alternative which was good was the Mitsubishi Pajero, damn i love that car

1200 bookings within 3 days of public launch? I seriously wonder how people just instantly book cars without as much as a TD!!. I mean, I can agree you book a Toyota since you can blindly trust em, but other manufacturers you gotta atleast take a TD, get opinions from others! :panic:

I have to agree with you on that you have to have a TD before buying a car. The bookings started 2 1/2 weeks back . press release was on 10th and 12 was the official launch.

India is the third county where GM has launched the car .

You can check out TEAM BHP here is the link brilliant detailed review and pictures.

^Oh sh*t sorry of course :panic: They must've started orders long time back. Thats what na, some people just buy it out of hype. I mean, its such a big expense. But yea, if you decide to wait and TD etc etc, u get a waiting period of months. Ritz, Swift etc have such massive wait periods. Maruti bookings are perennially in waiting :panic:
