Well the owner of the Car thinks the same and has put it for sale too, maybe I am too spoilt by honda and VW as the interior of those two are brilliant. Or maybe it is the black interior, or. Maybe it's plastics are too much swift from inside.

Idk. I have seen and driven the car and i didn't find it bad. Its packed with features and looks and feels decent, and i own 2 honds cars.

Well Baleno looks nothing special... For that matter even Jazz ain't that good either. Elite i20's interior and looks are much better.

Interior quality is definitely better in i20 but i don't like the interior layout. In terms of looks, i find jazz better than i20.

Yep, one of the main reasons I'm rooting for baleno.... For the price point, it comes with almost every feature out there....jazz is good too, but looks wise, it feels like a compressed innova to me :-/

Thinking of extending my budget and get a verna instead, would easily cost 2 lakhs more :(

BTW, what's the main diff between petrol and diesel variants in most cars (apart from the type/cost of fuel) ? Are there any other particular advantages of one over the other ?

Really? I love how jazz looks.

Well, some companies have better petrol engines, some are better in diesel engines. Both Hyundai and honda charge 1.5 lacs more for diesel variants and i feel that is too much. For a person with normal usage, paying that much extra isn't worth it. You will be paying much more in EMIs than your fuel cost savings.

Why not the city?

Diesel cars can be more fun to drive because of more torque, and more turbocharged options. In petrol you don't ha e many options in turbo charged, to feel the difference try driving the rapid automatic and vento automatic.

To add to what Aman said, a turbo charged petrol or that matter a normal petrol will be faster to 60 from a stop. But a Diesel engine will still be accelerating when a petrol engine tops out. So over a stretch the Diesel engine will catch up.

And damn Diesel engines are fun to drive.

I was told Verna is better than city.... Also, service wise, Hyundai it seems has more service centers than Honda....

I would mainly use for city driving.... So I guess driving at 60 would be a luxury [emoji14]. Umm, so, diesel is better than petrol ? No other disadvantages of a diesel engine ?

If yku gonna drive on only in city diesel should not even be considered.

As for who ever told you Verna is better then city must have been smoking pot.

If I extend my budget to 10L(on road), what would be the best options ? Of course I will drive them before choosing....

See the best option is to go and drive yourself, like Wolfy here loves diesel, I won't touch diesel for now till it's the car he drives. Any hatch in diesel is a no for me except Figo. In sedan I will only pick a diesel if it's a cruze or a jetta.

For your usage and budget I will recommend the following cars

Jazz, Figo, i20

For sedan I will suggest

City, vento

All above for manual, if you decide to go AT I will have different options.

Also you can check brezza.

Modern day diesel engines are very reliable. Don't compare them to olden days diesel engines like the one on the Amby.

Maintenance costs are on the higher side compared to a petrol, but VW cars for example need a service only once a year. So it balances out. For my Jetta the service cost is estimated at around 15k per year. For a Polo or a Vento this should be lesser.

Hyundai needs a service once in 6 months.

I wouldn't say that. Diesel engines have an incredible amount of torque. Getting off the line is much easier. With an i20, i could easily out run petrol Rapids and Ventos when the signal turned green.

But once that initial torque wears out, the petrols catch up.

Moreover, if you aren't getting an automatic, diesel engines with their torque are your best friend. Just leave the clutch and the car moves forward in stop and go traffic.

As for Verna being better than the City.... Pfffffffshsh!

Verna is feature packed, and has a powerful engine. That's it. It has a floaty ride, suspension is horrible, and has the same vague steering which you have to get used to.

City is an amazing car. The diesel engine is a gem, and has an incredible suspension.

Polo GT TSI - with an automatic DSG. No question about it.

Just get a City petrol IMO. A reliable, feature rich car with loads of space and comfort inside. 1.5 ivtec is an extremely refined abd rev happy engine. Its a joy to drive.

I wouldn't really suggest polo gt considering your requirements. Its a joy to drive but thats it. Its cramped from inside and it wouldn't call it a complete package. At 10 lac, just get a city petrol and you will be happy. Its a comolete, family car with loads of features, space, reliablity and fun engine as well.
