ayush12ice
i am going to buy my first car soon & need advice from you guys i am going for a Diesel car, i'll be travelling 100 Km + everyday. At the moment, i have shortlisted i20 Magna(INR 655745) & polo Comfortline(INR 633000). On paper, the features in i20 are better than polo. Which one should i go for & why? I want to know the average as well of both of them. http://www.hyundai.com/in/en/wcm/groups/websource/@in/documents/websourcecontent/109260.pdf http://www.volkswagen.co.in/media/country/in/x/models/polo/common/media.Par.0038.File.pdf/new_polo_e_brochure.pdf
Cash
I Liked i20 Better Space Better Performance but bit on the bigger side.
akashkhannabond007
IMO polo because its a new car, better looks, premium brand and overall nice performance too. In short its a full packed premium hatchback car.
Cash
Even i20 is a new car.
akashkhannabond007
It was launched a yr back.
Cash
Not diesel AFAIK
akashkhannabond007
By new i meant that the car had been launched more than a yr back whereas Polo was launched just few months back (April to be specific). The diesel version just has a new engine but the car is the same.
supersim
You might want to wait for a couple of months. The new Swift is on its way.
Death Stryke
They're both good cars. But, I feel the i20 has much better interior. The fit and finish of materials is better. I cannot compare the driving exp, but the i20 has more power than the Polo. Though in city driving, you wont notice the difference. Looks is subjective, so can't advise there. I give a lot of weightage to after sales support and coverage and would give the i20 the higher mark overall. Also, I am sure the hyundai will have a lot cheaper maintenance than the VW. VW's spare parts are quite expensive (As are the parts of its other company Skoda). TD both cars. And check for turbolag as well. Death Stryke
You might want to wait for a couple of months. The new Swift is on its way. April 2011 from what I heard. No point waiting so long. Maruti Swift would be the no-brainer though. For someone who values resale and after sales support, no one can beat Maruti. Amongst the non-desi companies, Toyota is the best. Also, the i20 seem to be more spacious as well

Death Stryke
@AL I've just stated prima facie. I personally like the i20's finish and interiors seem lot more classy. You dont need to agree with that :-|. One should see for himself what he likes. Regarding aftersales, it maybe cheaper than Skoda, but its definitely not gonna be cheaper than Hyundai. Like I said, it may not be important in your books, but Ive seen how Skoda, Ford etc charge exorbitantly for their parts. Besides, availability of spare parts outside the showroom is quite imp for me too after the free services are over. Unless I am buying a Luxury sedan like a BMW or Merc, I wouldn't go for a manufacturer who isn't widespread and well set in India. This is just me. unconscious_sabotage
Been driving the diesel i20 for nearly an year now. And still can't get enough of the adrenaline rush when the turbo kicks in at 1750 RPM. The acceleration is phenomenal when you floor the paddle. As for Polo, a newer 1.6 engine variant has been launched as well. Looks good on paper. @AL : You might as well consider the sheer number of service centers both the manufacturers have. AFAIK, VW is still in its infancy stage in India. Edited September 13, 2010 by unconscious_sabotage
Unrealistic
The i20 has great ride quality, even though it's a Hyundai. All bias aside, you do realize that the i20 has insanely low seating in the rear right? Next time you go for a test drive, try sitting at the back. I'm 5'11" and even I have trouble sitting at the back. The view outside the window is 30%-40% obstructed 'cause the seats are just that low. It might seem insignificant to some, but if you're a family man, or going to hire a driver, it'd make a huge difference. Just something to think about. What's turbolag? i have thought of all that & inclined towards i20 for those reasons. i also find the i20 a better looking car than polo( i m not saying polo looks bad or anything). How is the after sales support? which dealer did u get the car from? lend it to me for a TD The i20 has great ride quality, even though it's a Hyundai. MotaGENDA
Go for the i20. Better engine, cheaper (better) service, good features. Although may I ask why would you limit yourself to these two hatchbacks, when you can get a sedan for almost the same price. (Not to mention, a diesel swift) PS: Turbolag is the delay that occurs in a turbocharger system to give max boost after you floor the paddle. The lower the better.
