my dream car (a realistic dream)

m5sedan_large.jpg

Do I see ///M badging on there? Its a really really nice car, way overpriced in India. I would take the M3 over this anyday having been in both. I will have to say the M5 is a very special car, the feel of being in it, knowing that you can thrash a Gallardo is priceless.

thanks everyone

What's turbolag?

i have thought of all that & inclined towards i20 for those reasons. i also find the i20 a better looking car than polo( i m not saying polo looks bad or anything).

any idea about the mileage? How is the after sales support? which dealer did u get the car from?

lend it to me for a TD :P

i just started my first job. So no drivers atm. I'll be going to check out both the cars this week probably & will keep the low seating thing in mind.

Mileage is ~16 Kmpl. When pushed hard it'd still be around 14. Mine is the older one with 5 gears, the newer one comes with 6 gears which improves the mileage and the eases city driving.

I got the car from Safdarjang Hyundai. So for the after sales services has been pretty good with me.

Mine too (as in dream car). Made kinduva promise to myself that I'll get one of these after I get a job (yeah that'll be a few years with an MS degree next on my list). Yes, with the M badging. Either the 3 or the 5.

The M5 is overkill trust me, M3 is just right. I doubt we will ever be able to afford these in our lifetime with a legit way of life :D

I don't know... at $85,000 I think it's a pretty good deal for an outright buy. . . As in, slightly bigger car - a 5 series instead of a 3. Not really for the power or speeds achievable.

I agree it's overkill though. Still, if you're saving for an M3, one might as well save up for an M5. :)

Its not. The difference between the M5 and M3 in the power delivery is astounding. The straight line performance difference alone makes it worthwhile.

But there's only a 0.2s difference between the M3 and M5 when it comes to 0-60mph times.

Isn't the extra 100 or so horsepower there to compensate for the extra weight and size of the M5?

I have only driven one of these things - a daring friend of my dad's let me take his M5 (3-4 years ago I think) for a spin (2-3 km) around some place near Wellingborough (though driving an M5 around plainly is hardly gonna help me get to know the power of the car). And we were lucky that no cops stopped me and asked for my license. helps that the UK drives on the same side of the road as us

maybe one day I'll have enough money to buy me one of these without having to rob MT. . .

Wow..a lots of potential M3/M5 buyers!!

Well, all i ever want is a 67/68' Mustang or a R34 Skyline/new GTR

Hmmm a taste for old muscle eh? I kinda like the new mustang's looks though, and the new camaro (then again that could be cos of Bayformers' bumblebee  )

"Potential" .... haha, that will have to wait 6-7 years.. atleast 4-5 as it stands now.

True....i like the whole tuner culture...also the R34 has always seemed like something that can decimate a lot of cars...and it does!!

What can i say...i love cars, be they import, muscle, exotics,classics...i love em all!!

Err atleast in India the M3 Coupe is about 70 Lakhs and the M5 is 1.18 Cr. Thats a difference of 48 Lakhs which just kills the M5.

Under ///M mode I agree, but the M5 is too heavy and the tires are way too thin to actually have any fun in. The M3 is way easier to flick into corners, get on the gas and let ESP save yo azz! :P Really like I said before I have huge respect for the M5 but the M3 is the absolute perfect car you can own in India. Like I said before I love the M5 but its simply too big, too powerful and outlandishly expensive.

You left out the fact that the M5 guzzles a lot more gas than the M3 btw, guess that's a given. Besides, this year's M5 got called out in reviews for being a bit un-BMW like in steering feel or whatever and not so much of a pleasure in day-to-day driving as against the 3 which was supposedly excellent at both. But hey, if I had the money for an M-badged 5 series and for plenty of gasoline, I'd go for an M5, not an M3.

Who said anything about India? If I live and work in India all my life, well a normal 3 series is probably all I'll be able to afford at the age of 30 :P And buying a BMW in chennai would be nuts unless you had the patience to let everyone get ahead of you in traffic. I'd be petrified to push into traffic and hold my lane. Yeah, I'm rather anal about holding my lane, got close to a few accidents holding my lane with the hand on the horn at 70+ against idiots who try barging into non-existent gaps without so much as an indication. Helps when you have an old Baleno (my dad's of course, I can't afford my own car at 21) in such situations. :gunsmilie: I also follow people in front with (sometimes sub) 10 feet gaps in the lane at high speeds to prevent people who don't deserve to cut in from doing so. Never ever cut into anyone else's lane till now without clearance though.

Once another lane-cutting PoS scraped the side of my car leaving 2 long and relatively thick bright blue scratches on the side. Came home from college and found me some brake fluid. Before Dad came home with his Cruze, I wiped the side with half the brake oil in that container and a few old pieces of cloth. All the blue paint left from that idiot's bumper magically went away. Can still see a slight bit of fading in that region on the side but only if you look really hard for it under lights. :D

Now with a BMW, I'd have been livid with that kinda scratch, besides fixing it would have cost a bomb. And I can't pull all this crazy stuff with a car like that even 10 years on. never been brought up with a lot of money thrown at me, so I can't think of it as "chal, 10k only to set it right no? what the hell.. it's ok" ever, no matter how much I earn in the future.

Just out of pure curiosity, whats your daily drive. Any exotics in the family?

I have a good friend in Chennai who regularly drives a 911 Turbo, tracks it as often as he can. And has uploaded a few videos of 250 km/h, so my friend its entirely subjective.

As soon as I saw your mention about Gas I thought I wouldnt reply, but I guess I should still chip in. Dont be a lane hog, drive according to the rules of the land. I know you're following traffic rules but if it endangers you or someone else avoid it at all means. In India the only way to drive is defensive driving, avoid everything :D

You obviously have not heard about BMW Secure.
