AtheK
alrite so time to buy my first car is on me Have completed some research, somehow i am pretty much inclined to buy a Sedan... Budget uptil 6.5 lacs (Ex showroom) So here is what is on my mind... Manza Safire Aura + (Fully Loaded) Ford Feista ZXI (One below fully loaded) Hatchbacks Polo 1.6 (Too much waiting they are saying May end) Fabia 1.6 Elegance (Fully Loaded) Punto (Fully Loaded) I was thinking of Etios but waiting is 8 months, not possible to wait that long. What do you guys think, any alternatives???
Death Stryke
I personally dont like the Etios shape. Fiesta, albeit very good, is very very dated too right now. I would personally suggest the Polo or Ford Figo. Polo is one faptastic vehicle. Great cabin space as well. Avoid Fiat, after sales will be a nightmare with Tata handling it. Atleast till Fiat is widespread I wouldn't go for it. What about the i20? Not interested? The reason is its Hyundai and its presence is there everywhere plus parts are available in third party shops too. Or if you are adventurous, the Mahinda Thar. Man, I swear I want to sell my altis and buy this. Fk
AtheK
i20 is too underpowered i drove it and hated it...looks awesome though... With Polo, headache is the wait period, plus we still don't know after sales for volkswagen... I would have lapped Fabia, but there after sales service is close to sh*t...people are bashing Skoda left right and centre for there after sales, not only for Fabia but Octavia and other cars too... I am pretty impressed with manza looks pretty awesome and has all the stuff in around 6 lacs, have asked them to get it for test ride this sat to my house... Death Stryke
Aman, every good car is in waiting these days. If its not in waiting, it probably isnt good Fortuner is sold out till August I believe. Polo I heard waiting is 4 months. Maruti Swift etc toh dont even ask Except 10lakh+ cars, most of the hot selling cars are heavy in waiting. So you have to wait for it. Why do u want to buy a not so good car just because its available right now? Car is a huge investment, thoda wait karle. Besides, I dunno really, Indica ? Usually a taxi or company use car. Its a good car, but thats the image Volkswagen yes presence is less but then its doing well. So they might increase their presence and a*s soon. Skoda even I wouldn't suggest because of the horrendous stories of fake parts being installed, and exorbitant prices for spare parts etc. Hyundai i20 diesel is underpowered too? U looking at diesel or petrol? i20 is the best selling car in its segment actually. Although Figo is very close What about Ford Figo? That seems to be doing very well. Did u TD it? AtheK
well ya Indigo Tag makes me feel to hold back, but i did read reviews, specially one on team BHP, its full of praises except a bit of things here and there...and to console me Tata is not selling Manza for taxi driving ...Car is actually pretty awesome with bluetooth integration and stuff...hell in team BHP they have compared the rear seat comfort to 10+ lakh cars...also just for the waiting game thing the car has 2 months waiting i am looking for petrol...just gonna drive 15-20 kms a day and a little more on weekends...Diesel does not fit the bill... No i have not Td Figo, but a friend has it and he keeps cribbing about the ground clearance, says keeps hitting the humps all the time, i can always take it out for a spin, but he is pretty angry about the clearance part... Death Stryke
^Hmm. I suppose so. In any case, If you like it go for it, check for rear legroom space. Go with 3-4 people if u can and see. And TD the Figo too. Ford also has the advantage of good presence in India. When you talk about GL, I only associate the Civic with it. It has been a notorious problem with Civics. Honda didn't tune the suspension to Indian standards Was too soft for our roads.

Death Stryke
Haha,, GTO's reviews are the most fantastic reviews. The best part of his review is the "Other points" Or "Small significant things". You learn so much about the small niggles with the car which U might not come to know of before buying the car. Only you will realize once u start using. Really helpful and could actually tilt your decision in favour or against the car. Nemo
@ aman. I am not sure if you can get polo in 6.5 lac ? definately not the high end version. We too are looking for a car and polo is going near 8 lac top end, dad said might as well go for Vento if that kind of money is being splashed. Also, if you can wait 4-5 months, Honda are bringing out their small car, Brio. Its certain to be in your budget as honda got poor results with their jazz which was good in performance but was priced in the sedan category. Or if you are adventurous, the Mahinda Thar. Man, I swear I want to sell my altis and buy this. Fk http://www.indiamag.in/wp-content/uploads/2010/12/Mahindra-Thar.jpg Looks so sweet and manly.. P.s. just learnt to drive a month ago Edited January 5, 2011 by Nemo

AngerSmash
imo dont go for indigo no doubt it has more features thn vento, city but u jst dont get the overall feel of the car Edited January 5, 2011 by AngerSmash
Death Stryke
I think you should see ownership reviews as well for the Manza, it may be good out of the showroom or first drive which was when GTO probably reviewed it. You might find ownership reviews on TBHP. Tata cars have lot of build quality issues so you have to be wary about that fact. Although like Maruti, even tata spares are widely available and are in all probability very cheap too.
AtheK
ya just started hitting my head with this, lets see where life goes, seems around 6k service charges after 20k servicing, which i guess is decent. Ford Fiesta may be old, but its a pretty solid car...
prakhar
Maruti SX 4 <Swift Dezire bhi tho usssi range mein hai. i20 petrol is a good car, gives u a feel of driving a sedan. Plus hyundai hai, so service is not an issue. Manza is also pretty good, will suffice ur needs.
