Microsoft to Acquire Activision Blizzard

Microsoft Deal Wipes $20 Billion Off Sony's Market Value in a Day

Sony Group Corp. shares fell 13% in Tokyo on Wednesday, their biggest drop since October 2008, after PlayStation rival Microsoft Corp. announced a $69 billion deal to acquire games publisher Activision Blizzard Inc.

“Sony will have a monumental challenge on its hands to stand on its own in this war of attrition,” said Amir Anvarzadeh of Asymmetric Advisors. “With Call of Duty now most likely to be added exclusively to the Game Pass roster, the headwinds for Sony are only going to get tougher.”

“Sony will struggle to match Microsoft in terms of money it can spend to buy popular game IP,” Morningstar Research analyst Kazunori Ito said. “Falling shares illustrate investors are worried that Sony may not be able to keep winning if indeed the industry shifts away from the hardware-based model.”

This deal does nothing for me personally expect for now I'll get to play COD on GP. Pretty good for COD players though. Kudos!

Sony will be fine though, they have a market of their own. Fingers crossed.

That can be fixed with acquisition of Take two or Valve.

That's not gonna be possible. Not for Sony atleast.

Valve will never sell it. Newell said Valve would prefer to disintegrate than ever sell out.

T2 is expanding on their own. SONY won't drop $28b+ extra to buy them.

Maybe Square-Enix but otherwise don't see them buying the big ones.

Lol. People are acting as if share price drops are permanent.

They just need to wait for another PS showcase.

France won't allow it. So very unlikely Ubisoft will sell to Americans or anyone outside France.

Embracer group seems like a likely candidate

Japanese companies are out of the question. Regulations restrict that. If it could happen though, Sega would be an amazing get. Persona on game pass.

Same. Only interested in Crash out of the whole ActiBliz IP.

Heck, I’ve never played CoD (I think). :fear1:

I don't think we would see another crash bandicoot game for a significant time interval now (as they just launched the 4th part).

The thing is Playstation is still being run at the lower level of just the gaming division.

While M$ has totally taken over the decision making & strategic investments of it’s gaming division away from just the Xbox level.

Ideally Sony should have already bought Square Enix & Capcom when it saw M$,Google & Stadia advancing on cloud streaming & distribution.

They are too late to negotiate any deal now it seems & they just don’t have the kinda money M$ does.
