lithuvien
Paolini still hasn't finished the story with Brinsingr. What a let down, that too, after so many pages. Unfortunately, Mr. Paolini seems to have fallen prey to the "series bug", one that compels authors to churn out book after book filled with insubstantial stuff simply to churn out money for them and their publishers. Robert Jordan is the biggest example, by far. Is it any wonder that David Gemmell is my favourite author?
Don Karnage
^ I've read most of Gemmell's Drenai series (nine books IIRC) and quite liked them. Any others you would care to recommend?
Aftrunner
The Troy trilogy from Gemmel is quite good.
lithuvien
Try the rigante series. They are also nice. But a word of caution, it is entirely possible that you may come out disappointed since you have already read the Drenai series. Legend, Legend of Deathwalker, White Wolf, Swords of Day and Night and Quest for Lost Heroes are way above any other book Gemmell has ever written. The only flip side is that these books make the rest of his work look prdinary, even though they are pretty good. Â Another good author is Robin Hobb. Her Tawny Man trilogy is abswolutely scintillating, along with the Farseer Trilogy.

killeramit
I just finished reading A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Man! I dont think i have been so saddened and moved in my life ever. Just reading about the suffering and brutality faced by the afghan women is so excruciatingly painful, I dont think I can even imagine what it was like in real. Every other sad depressing story I might have heard of or saw totally pales in comparison to this. Good read for those who have an appetite for it. Life is already full of many problems on top of it reading depressing/painful stories is not a good idea. anyways hosseini is a great writer and the Kite runner was an awesome book too. Â Yeah, I know, It was heavy read. But I have no regrets. I loved the story. But now I wanted to read something light, so picked up Roald Dahl
Bulovski
Just finished Septimus Heap: Magyk. Really good read - what can I say, I am a sucker for adolescent fantasy fiction. Heading out to get my hands on the other three.
DeeMan
^^ That good, huh? Does it have any dark overtones or wholesome airy fun? Will pick up one this weekend! I just got done with Memoirs of a Geisha, long pending, and it was quite the revelation. Just something about the way it is written, one of the fewer books which excels at creating an authentic atmosphere and gets you heavily invested, and all this without obvious pandering. Bulovski
No dark overtones yet - but I read only the first book. Bought 3 and 4, couldn't find a copy of 2. Generally good clean read throughout with very few words made up - although to sound eldritch, the author has just spelt everything very badly

Aftrunner
Currently reading Animal farm. More often than not I agree with Orwells criticism of Communism but its laid on a bit thick in the book. 1984 was much better. This one is like Micheal moore's documentry, you agree with the points presented but you kinda wish they weren't done in such a rabid manner. Still he is a superb writer and very easy to read. Â And I am waiting for my copy of the Assasins apprentice trilogy by R hobb which I should (hopefully) have by this coming midweek.

Bulovski
Ender's game is brilliant. Did you read the short story it's based on? It's pretty similar - especially the academy days. Also by Orson.
Aftrunner
Started the Assassins apprentice by Robin Hobb. Fantastic so far.
Don Karnage
^ Just finished reading that. I found the Farseer trilogy lacking in most respects, specially the way all three books start off in the same way. Highly derivative series and the spluttering pace doesn't help either.
