Where do you guys recommend buying books online from? I ordered a couple of hardcovers from amazon (cloudtail?) and they got delivered with visibly damaged spines and edges.

That's not good, I buy from Amazon but they don't have all the hardcovers.

Check Bookdepository. Free international shipping, and they have everything!
UK prices for hardcovers though, but if you keep an eye on it deals come by.

I'm convinced it's because of how they store / inventory their products, especially the obscure books. I received two used hardcovers by third party sellers off amazon itself, except for very minor bumps on the edges they were shipped & delivered in great condition.

Will check out Bookdepository, Thanks. Btw aren't UK rates better than Indian ones though, looking for deluxe / hardbound editions of graphic novels mainly.

I use only kindle for reading books these days, gone are the days of lugging around heavy boxes of books to make space for new books or dusting off the shelves....   I can't think of a better device made for reading, tried pdfs on tab / laptop etc, but nothing comes close to kindle in terms of reading long novels.  The difference in price of hardcover/paperback to kindle edition also works in its favor.

speaking of long novels, haven't been getting much time to read oathbringer, which i started around 20 days back i guess.... got distracted with some non-fiction ones.

1. What successful people do before breakfast -  Bought this after liking the author's talk on TED (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n3kNlFMXslo) , but the book is not really well written and just glosses over the topic, seems very hastily written.

2. Zero to one  - seems interesting, but still early in the book , to review it.

Also, next on my non-fiction reading list is No rules rules (based on netflix/founder reed hastings)

Bookdepository should have whatever you need. Prices are usually alright. Paperbacks are generally cheaper in India than UK.

I get all the obscure ones on there as well, and new releases which we may not get in India except on kindle. Plus free shipping :)

+1. I have read on iPad before, and it does work pretty fine, but they were all short reads.

Kindle is hands down one of the best purchases I've ever made.

+1 on the Kindle train, especially for long reads. I read multiple books in parallel over a couple of months which gets a lot easier when you can just switch books in a couple of taps. I've recently gotten into collecting the physical / special editions of books that I really like, but those are rare and few. For graphic novels though I still prefer the physical full size copies.

Speaking of reads, I recently completed Sleeping with the Devil (Link), informative read on the Saudi crude oil dealings, the royal family, Washington & the eventual effects / side effects.

I've always been collecting as a kid, and I read mostly physical. Two bookshelves filled to the brim.

But now I have too many that I don't read and its just not feasible for me to have so many. So removing a lot of books from my shelves.

Hence don't buy physical anymore, unless they're absolute favourites like Sanderson books. I rely on kindle, and quite a bit of audiobooks over this past year.

Yeh book thief seems nice..Awesome pic..

Murakami is amazing..he writes amazing books with a very mild touch of meta and mystic..

Try Kafka on the shore, Norwegian woods,One birthday girl,Winding up bird chronicle by him..killing commandatore is nice too..

Murakamis reputation is slightly like Kojimas reputation in gaming

I was more into thrillers/mysteries, into fantasy mostly recently.... If you like thrillers try novels from Frederick Forsyth (day of the jackal, fourth protocol etc).... Mostly set during cold war era .... if you want to go still back there's Alistair McLean (guns of navarone etc)- set mostly during ww2 !!

Tried most of Frederick Forsythe work :) love The Icon. He writes more of espionage. Love Daniel Silva,Ludlum and somenken follets works too.

Guns of Navarone is a very good movie (i preferred the movie). It reminds me bit of a stealth mission from MGS or Sniper elite series.

I came here looking to ask your opinions on getting a Kindle, but I see some positive comments already. Now my question is if it's worth getting the latest (10th gen) version of either Kindle or Kindle Paperwhite. I've seen the 7th gen versions go for cheap so does that work just fine or is there a significant benefit to the latest version?
