Sony Acquires Bungie Studios

Recommended Posts

“First off, I want to be very clear to the community that Bungie will remain an independent and multi-platform studio and publisher.

Bungie’s successful track record in multi-format publishing and live game services will assist us in realizing our ambitions to take PlayStation beyond the console and increase our potential audience. They will remain independent and multi-platform, will enjoy creative freedom.

Bungie’s expertise in delivering a world-class service approach and long-term community engagement is extremely compelling and will support the development of several future live services titles from PlayStation Studios.”

What's so shocking here. Destiny would be Sony's constant stream of cashflows which they can later use to create bigger franchises.

Sony's whole model is not based around services.

This isn't as big a deal as Sony fans are making it out to be. In fact, Sony fans should be concerned if anything at all. Sony are openly going all Live services this, gaas that!

But obviously, ponies want to pretend it's a big enough deal bcuz of what happened a couple of weeks ago.

Next up is probably Remedy for SONY.

Remedy will be a cool acquisition. It's a pretty talented studio hamstrung by relatively smaller budgets because of risky ideas. Would like to see them go all out like HM did with Returnal.

I really love the redemption arc of Housemarque saying arcade games are dead and then getting to make what they love with a pretty significant budget. Wouldn't be possible without Sony.

Remedy has their biggest game coming out in 10 days and nobody seems to give a sh*t. They'd benefit from a backing of a company that knows how to hype up games.

True. Great job with Returnal, not possible without Sony money.

Remedy would be a great buy, and cheap to boot. Much more likely than fantasizing about SONY acquiring behemoths like Capcom, Square Enix, or Ubisoft, all out of SONY's budget.
