Joy
Its not at all like FF IX. FF7 and 8 would be closer, unless you are just talking about the exploration and world map. Offcourse.
praveer
Party members names : http://i.imgur.com/HOI7D.png Ignis ( the buddy with glasses and spike hair ) Gladiolus Noctis http://i.imgur.com/g9g5m.png Gladiolus prompio ? Noctis Translation of the dialogues Driver: Prince Noctis. (Several times) Driver: That over there's intense isn't it? Noctis: It's just like an occupation. (Tool booth says that it's closed, but they get to go through anyway since he's a prince.) Noctis: Goodbye, whoever you are. Lady: You see the light too, right Noctis? Lady: So do I. Lady: When the goddess Etro opens the gates to welcome the souls of the fallen, the dazzling light that lights up the land of the dead leaks out into the heaven. Lady: Sometimes there are those that can see the light. These people are gifted with powers from the land of the dead. Lady: Did you receive any powers Noctis? Noctis: I don't know about Etro's light or whatever, but I don't like seeing that. Lady: But why... why are there people who can see it and people who can't, I wonder? Lady: I believe that there is some special meaning to it, and I've been thinking about it for a long time. Noctis: A meaning with.. seeing the light? Lady: Yes. For example maybe there is something I must do or accomplish? King: I see, so you are just using it? King: However, I'm sorry to say that you can not become king. King: I will not turn over the throne to anyone. King: I will go down in history as the last king Noctis: Ignis, how was it? Ignis: L'cie(?) were continuing as if nothing happened. They continue to thrive together with the crystal. Ignis: I believe that this is the best way it could end for the Niflheim side. (There's some word that sounds like like Hanawa.. but I don't think it fits in. Might be referring to some in-game thing that I/we don't know anything about. Noctis: That means we will do a full assault and recapture the crystal, right? Ignis: No, look at it realistically Noct. Noctis: You saw my strength, didn't you!? Gladiolus: We saw it, but your body isn't used to your new power yet. I must be tough right now. Ignis: You're going to need time. Grumpy: Let's go! Noctis: Why should I, the strongest of us all, run away? Ignis: When you're here the number of victims will increase. Noctis: Why!? Ignis: You're their target. They probably want to take you hostage and use that advantage in negotiations. Noctis: Negotiations? At this stage? Noctis: I'll just beat them all. Ignis: Noct, I'm sorry but you're just not strong enough. Noctis: WTF!? (DRAGOON! HELLZ YEAH!) Ignis (I think): Do you have a plan? Something 10 times worse. Noctis: I'm going to think of a way to return it hundredfold Edited January 18, 2011 by praveer

KnackChap
Awesome , a proper next gen Final Fantasy IX type is coming now. even the trailer was not not finished FFS!! they have been showing that scene with stella for more than a year ago and they still havent recorded the sound for it. FFS SE
Nemo
so is this like a proper action rpg game ? i mean not turn based combat ? if so then i am really and honestly interested ! also i assume there is no need to be abreast about any back story or anything.. right ? ie its a stand alone sequel ? Shadoken
Yea it is ...I think its set in the same ff13 universe but ,I hope you dont need to play ff13 to understand this .... those spells, combat and the world looks awesome... Noctis
even the trailer was not not finished FFS!! they have been showing that scene with stella for more than a year ago and they still havent recorded the sound for it. FFS SE Nope, its not the same. Stella's models/hair etc. have been changed along with some parts of the background. I believe they were showing that. And new content (gameplay) starts at 2:40 from the trailer. so is this like a proper action rpg game ? i mean not turn based combat ? if so then i am really and honestly interested ! also i assume there is no need to be abreast about any back story or anything.. right ? ie its a stand alone sequel ? It will be an action rpg game. Combat will be an evolved form of KH to fit in some FF elements, check out some Birth by Sleep combat videos if you want to know more. (the game is being made by the KH team as well) And yeah, its a stand alone game.
Nemo
i am going to check those vids- Birth by Sleep but i am not sure i will understand it, i just wanna know if it has turn based, pause game shenanigans or not ? cause i am put off by them. if we can attack on the fly then i am all for it
praveer
You do realize that Turn based battles in J-RPGs are history, especially with Final Fantasy....its all about Active Time Battle now.
Noctis
Anyway, this is an action RPG. So there isn't even the FF style ATBs (Active Time Battles) here. Plus there seems to be TPS and vehicle segments too, although there are no details on them.
Nemo
@ praveer i err... i did not know that, ok, what i want to know is when in combat does your player stay rooted to one spot when you give commands ? i saw my cousin play ff X13 and that was there. I dont like the chess type combat where you give inputs and the player attacks on its own with a pre set animation. i know i am not wording it properly :| @ noctis thanks Edited January 19, 2011 by Nemo
Noctis
To make it simple, you move your character around freely and fight in real time. The chess like combat you mentioned usually feature in srpgs, the ATBs in jrpgs and real time combat in Action rpgs.
praveer
Birth by Sleep's fighting is fun.....BUT it gets repetitive cause there aren't really many moves and there is no strategy involved. Versus XIII looks to have variety thrown in to counter that with things like mechs, Tanks, Shooting etc etc. attacks on its own with a pre set animation Technically speaking that's how it works for every game...you press a button and the character will perform a set of pre-determine action.
