Here are my impressions.

A game which was touted as a continuous array of Quick Time events or QTEs has in fact turned into just that, atleast from what the demo serves to us. The demo is a two scene gameplay, one in which you will be playing as private detective Scott Shelby, and the other as FBI agent Norman Jayden.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s not all QTEs, because there is decision making, and your progress depends on the decisions you make. This may seem generic and the same as all the hands on reviews that you have read out there. But that is what it is. I would not like to reveal all the details, even of the demo, because there maybe people who don’t want any spoilers whatsoever. I will just give one example though. Playing as the FBI detective Norman Jayden, you have to investigate a crime scene which looks to be the work of the Origami Killer. After a little bit of investigation, you can turn back and head home, but that will mean you will not have enough clues to get cracking on the case. Well you get my point.

For people who have played the Indigo Prophecy or Fahrenheit, this game is very similar to that. I played the Indigo Prophecy on the PC, and apart from the stupid controls, found the game enthralling. Heavy Rain will feel the same. You get to be part of the movie that is Heavy Rain. This will appeal to me, or a casual gamer, who likes to play a game with couple of his friends sitting around and advising him on what to do next. Its actually nice to play it that way. Also, each scenario can be played in different ways. Examples of this are in the videos below which GameTrailers provided a while back.

But, and this is huge BUT, if you are a gamer who needs to take complete control over playing the game, and will not like to watch cut scenes every five minutes, this game will not appeal to you. But I do recommend buying it atleast for the sake of checking it out. You can always trade it in for another game of your liking.

This is a bold move by Quantic Dream and they should be appreciated for this. As far as the graphics go, they are top notch. The rain drops, the splash of water that the windscreen wipers make, the characters’ faces etc have been exceptionally modelled.

So is the audio, the constant splatter of rain drops is almost real. The voice acting is immacualate, and the background score suits the sombre mood.

The only qualm I have is with the controls. An elementary thing like walking the characters down the road can be tricky. A slight turn of the left stick also causes the character to turn at right angles. Well, that can be ironed out with practice.

All In all, an interesting game, a keeper for me, but I am sure this game will get high 9s, and low 6s in the reviews.

I would give the demo

Presentation - 8

Graphics -9.5

Sound - 9

Game play - 7

Re-playability - 10

Lasting Appeal - 9

Average Overall Score: 8.7
