Pros

- It is a wonderful looking game. It may just be the strongest point of the game, since they have managed to create a breathtaking, very dynamic and reactive world of Feudal Japan.

- Music and ambient and other sound effects are impressive, take the advantage of 3d sound effects. The way environmental and animal sound changes though weather is really impressive.

 - Fun level design leaving options to sneak & climb around, and make quick escapes.

- The seasons are a nice addition.

- Naoe and Yasuke character buildup and back story is interesting. Both have distinct uses in situations, keeps the quests interesting and balanced.

Cons

- The story is a bit cliché and predictable, but to me it's been enjoyable. The writing seems okay to me, when just taking it at face value and not trying to find points to criticise.

- Character swapping is a little inconvenient, Rockstar could do an instant character swap in PS3 Xbox 360 era, we're in PS5 XSX gen it should've been instant.

- Too much repetition in some of the side objectives, such as the shrines where you have to collect lost pages or pray at specific spots; 2 per location max would've been good, but there's often 3 or 4.

- Inconsistent climbability of terrain, many rock formations can be climbed, many others cannot, and I haven't been able to tell without trying. I would prefer all that reasonably look climbable to be, even if it trivializes objectives; let the game reward clever alternate pathing.

Overall I've enjoyed my time with the game and continue to enjoy it. It's far from perfect, but it's good fun. The story, the locations and targets are just good enough and varied enough to keep me interested.

By the way, if you want to take your mind off Japan for a while and immerse yourself in classic grind, here's a great guide on how to farm raid bosses in Lineage 2 Interlude at levels 51-75: https://portal.sacralium.game/article/luchshie-reyd-bossy-dlya-farma-na-urovne-51-75-v-lineage-2-interlude
Nostalgia, epics and lameness are guaranteed.

Pro tip: Turn on Guaranteed Assassination from options, thank me later.

I agree 100% - the visuals and atmosphere are just bombastic. Especially impressed with how everything changes with the weather, and how the sounds really affect the perception. And thanks for ‘Guaranteed Killing’ - turned it on and the game played with new colours

I dropped this. It got so repetitive, I was sleepy whenever I played this :P it's a pity though, the atmosphere is phenomenal but only if gameplay could match up. First time I am not completing an AC game which I have started.

Ya it is extremely boring like typical AC game. They just focused on graphics and few new stealth stuff instead of core gameplay and mission design. The grind is designed to make people buy microtransaction packs because they know that majority will play through subscription, so microtransactions are best way to make money. This affects everything in a negative way.

  • 3 weeks later...

Actual sales numbers of this snoozefest are out.

• PS5: 1.7 million copies sold since launch (2 months).

• PC: 367K copies sold on Steam in the first two weeks—after which sales plummeted so hard, it became difficult for game analytics to gather accurate data.

• Xbox: No exact numbers, but it’s the worst-performing among the three platforms. So, let’s be generous and assume it matches PC 367K copies sold.

That brings the total to 2.4 million copies sold across all platforms. To put that into perspective:

• Ghost of Tsushima sold that many copies in just 3 days—and it was a PlayStation exclusive.

• Even Assassin’s Creed 1, a game from 18 years ago, sold 2.5 million copies in its

first month.

Good, hope they go back to the drawing board and come up with something good or put the series on a break.

Forgot to post link. https://alineaanalytics.com/blog/assassins_shadow/

By comparing the total sales Ubisoft announced at launch and deducting PS and steam numbers, it is clear that Xbox was least selling. Also I don't think any sane person would buy game outright on xbox when it was available day 1 on subscription.

No.  UBISOFT plus Pro which is only available on PC and Xbox with crossplay and cross pregression support. I played via Ubi pro. only

I saw Piscilla post on Era where he said majority PC and xbox players played via Ubi pro only.

Same case was with Star wars Outlaws

I enjoyed Shadows but looks like lot of players are done with Ubisoft open world games. They need to reboot AC series and make it more like Hitman games where you have specific targets in an open sandbox environment with different ways to assassinate targets.

They need to end their obsession of making every game open world.

This is a pretty good way to go.

And maybe make a prince of Persia open world game with solid combat and platforming. Forget about stealth in open world.
