Damn i don't think any1 saw this .

Penalty which France got in Extra time - the ball struck the hand of a French player  first ( Raised arm ) before reaching Mbappe whose shot was then blocked with his hand by Argentine player and penalty was awarded to France .

Imagine if Argentina had lost the final and then this came to light.

What's the point of VAR if it can't spot a simple handball .

Ignore the shorts headline.

I didn't even notice this

Surprising that none of the Argentinian players called for a hand ball.

Messi had already got one yellow. With this, (if noticed), he would have been debarred from the semis. Is he blessing the ball or something. Wtf was he thinking.

The ball never touched his hand. This is just being viewed from the wrong angle.

From this angle, it just touched his head.

People think referees miss stuff. But they rarely do. They catch everything.

Intentional handball does mean an automatic yellow card, unless it is clearly  breaking a goal scoring opportunity or an attack towards the goal.

In cases like these, it’s upto the referee.

However, it was still risky and Messi just did this on a whim.

everything that happens on the field depends on the whims of the referee.

EVen the VAR is taken if the referee makes an absolute blunder.

This is the precise reason people are questioning some controversial decisions that went argentinas way all through the tourney

The refereeing was alright, tbh.

This has been one of the well officiated world cups in a long time.

Argentina plays smart.
This is one of the biggest areas where Scaloni changed the team. He likes defenders that commit.

They have players constantly throwing themselves in the way and waiting for a mistake from the opponent and it works for them.

Their unbeaten run from the Copa America final in 2021 until they lost to Saudi has been amazing.
Maybe no one hyped it, but they have always been heavy favourites to win it.

From Infantino to the Emir of Qatar, everyone was pretty vocal about how they wanted to see Messi lift the WC

From 2014 I knew Messi will life the world cup 2022. The saudi Arabia loss came at perfect time to make sure they don't take it for granted. They were unbeaten for 30+ matches before WC and strong favorites to win especially with France without Kante and Pogba and even Benzema. On penalties they were covered because historically they are better in penalty shootouts and now they had probably best penalty stopper gk in the world. France win would have been a massive upset

France lost the penalty shootout the moment they picked the argentinian side (goalpost) to take the shot. Specially with younger players (veterans Giroud, Griezmann being substituted thus losing out on 2 probable goals)

Secondly, foulmouthing can never be deemed as mindgames. he should have been booked. once for foulmouthing and second for throwing the ball away.

Also piss poor form of Lloris added to the misery. I mean he could have just dived to his right for the last two penalties, if his "plan" was not working in the first place. very poor from a premier league GK

Giroud can't last for 90 minutes let alone 120. He was never going to be part of shootout. France were totally sh*t till first 70 minutes anyways. Their midfield was non existent. Lloris isn't in his prime now. He is not that great a keeper anyways. Martinez is like penalty shootout specialist. He did it in copa America, did it twice in world cup.

The non inclusion of Benzema left a deep void as well. He should have been in the squad, if not for anything else, then just for penalties and extra time. Also, in the extra time, France had more realistic chances at goal than Argentina. I guess they had figured their (Argentina's) tactics lout ate into the game.

Regarding Martinez, lets see how he performs at Aston Villa now. One thing is for sure, refs wont take his nonsense anymore and he will be the one getting the hate from European fans and players alike, for some time to come.

Martinez was excellent in PL in 2020. From 2021 his form went down. Shouting on opposition players during penalty shootout is common. It happens in PL during penalties too. It's not something new or revolutionary. Tim Krul has been doing it since 2014:

His off field/ post wc antics are earning him more haters than supporters (outside of South America). Trolling someone who scored 4 goals against you in a WC finals, that too after the match, shows his class tbh. Let's see if he can keep up his performances.

His performances are below par in league since last season anyways. He shines only for national team. He is quite a character looking at what he did after winning golden glove.

Yeah, he is an eccentric individual. I mean, show some respect to the trophy you are holding and what it represents.

But I don't see anything wrong with his mind games. It's very common in club football to try and intimidate the penalty taker.

You mean 1 actual goal and 3 penalties? :giggle:

But yeah, I’m not a fan of his character off the field.

Apart from that Mbappe doll thing he did, he also mocked Tchouameni while speaking at an event in Argentina.
He’s not so classy.
