Though the few times I did play, I didn't have much problems, occasional ping spikes were there though. Anyway, I am hoping that over the past few months they would have ironed all the bumps out. harsh1387
Satisfactory performance for all the streaming platforms? I mean, primarily, Netflix/Prime/HotstarNetflix HDR streams great and so does Prime. Dont watch Hotstar on TV so no idea about that. YouTube also works great. Have never experienced any lag when it comes to streaming. Hows it for gaming though? It's more or less same as Airtel. I only play GTA 5 online and sometimes pings do spike within gameplay. Haven't tried any other game yet so can't comment.Torrent download on Utorrent mostly ranges between 3-5 MB per sec. Which is good enough for me as I watch most content via streaming and rarely torrent now.Sent from my SM-A505F using Tapatalk
Root
I did a trial run with them. Everything was working smooth but suddenly the speeds dropped on selected websites. They use deep packet inspection of some kind which makes it throttle particular sources or even delivery methods like P2P even if it's encrypted. Hell, I showed them that Ubuntu torrent (legal) doesn't pick up speed and all they said was "Torrent illegal hai sir". So in it's current state, Jio is only good enough for streaming. How do you know they are using deep packet inspection? But top executives are clear on the opportunity. “It’s called Deep Packet Inspection, and what you can do with the analytics of that is mind-boggling,” said a senior Reliance executive, referring to a practice that digs into ‘packets’ of data created by computers for efficiency, mining them for information. https://in.reuters.com/article/reliance-telecoms-jio/from-big-oil-to-big-data-inside-mukesh-ambanis-20-billion-start-up-idINKCN11611V
KunjanPSD
5 hours ago, Root said: How do you know they are using deep packet inspection? Sent using Tapatalk For starters, one of my known Airtel Engineer jumped the ship and went to Jio. He let me know that they implement it when I asked about P2P throttling. Also, one of my college's mass data server is P2P based (healthy seeder ratio), generally it's heavily encrypted but I was in hurry and was downloading with a pretty weak encryption, something like you will find in Utorrent settings. P2P speeds ranged between 3-4 Mbps while direct download from same server was in 15-18 Mbps range. Mind you, these were just datasets for my project. Also, you can easily see and predict when it's gonna throttle after using it for a while for specific file types.
mohit9206
How is this allowed? Where is net neutrality in all this. More importantly, where is privacy? Really sad to see this. Privacy lol.

So i expect in long run Airtel will remain faster than Jio even in broadband space?

Not really, they have to specify in their terms and conditions whether they throttle the speed based on total bandwidth availability. Otherwise to be termed as a Broadband, they need to provide dedicated/unshared bandwidth, mobile data doesn't have to adhere to these definitions. Also, I am still stuck on 40Mbps Airtel because of feasibility but it's still better than the Jio Trial I had, they used to throttle downloads most of the things which weren't mainstream. HEMAN
Yes, they can keep their FUP plans. Safe and sound. What's the Point of having 250mbps speed when its limited to 750gb after that its 1mbps.

cyberpunk
BSNL fiber has better plans. Are they really giving DTH for free with Jio fiber? Airtel and Tata Sky's overpriced plans have real competition now.

Everybody is the regurgitating some bullshit in the past 24 hours. Heck, even local sales people aren't sure of the annual offers at the moment. It's a mess.
