nope.. bandwidth is the amount of data which can be transferred to your pc at a time.. its like a road.. bigger the road.. more number of cars can travel at the same time..while ping refers to the time taken for the data to be sent to the server and recieved back.. it depends upon the distance between the two places.. the route taken.. connection quality and stuff

if you have a better upload speed you usually get picked as the host in a p2p game. now it depends on how well everyone can communicate with the host and that is ping, if the host lives closer then you will get a great ping if he lives far away you will get horrible ping.

Connection speed is only required for uploading game data and as shantz said 256kbps and above is enough for that and there are other factors like netcode and stuff which can calculate when the bullet will hit, this reduces the bad effect due to the long distance between you and the host.

Only dedicated servers will cancel out the distance factor and only good netcode will help in p2p games.

But there are wierd games like killzone 2, which i dont think is p2p or has dedicated servers :D but works fantastic.

even though i live in chennai.. i get a better ping with a server in mumbai.. thats cause airtel routes me to the server in chennai across a long route instead of connecting me directly.. lol.. so i will lag considerably if i play a guy frm chennai . :D . basically ping is what matters..

killzone 2 did things differently.. basically everyone wld be actin like hosts in that game.. for eg.. if i shot a bullet t you.. you wld be the host for that bullet.. so basicaaly each console acted as a server.. praveer would be able to explain it better.. lol :D

who gives a f about the uplaod speed :D:)

upload is very important for online backups, email attachments, torrents, uploading to any filesharing sites, working remotely with other PCs, etc...
